Episode Description

Change happens every day, whether you like it or not. Sometimes it happens to you. Sometimes you make it happen. And sometimes you change for the worse before you change for the better.

After 20 years of coaching, I've noticed people change when they finally wear themselves out. They hit the that's-it moment. I'm done. I'm out of here.

Then comes frustration, and it turns out frustration is your friend. It pushes you toward the one answer nobody else can hand you. You're the boss of you. Stand up, take a step, and repeat.

Featured Story

Brittany told me something last week that made me laugh. She said, " You did your job too good, man. And then she fired me.

I'm proud of her, so I'll use her name. When we started, she was waiting for someone else to hand her the answer, me included. We worked through the frustration together, the days she wanted to quit and the days she was mad at me.

Then one day she took control. Boom. The first thing she did with that control was let me go.

That's graduation day. It happens to me all the time, and I wouldn't have it any other way.

Important Points

  • Change usually shows up after you wear yourself out repeating the same behavior and getting the same unwanted result.

  • Frustration isn't a sign you're failing. It's the push that moves you past waiting on others to hand you the answers.

  • A plan from a chatbot at 3 a.m. is easy. The real work starts when you step out into the world and make it happen.

Memorable Quotes

  • When you understand that the only person who can give you your dreams is you, your dreams become real. Magic happens.

  • You are already meant to be a certain person. You already have everything you need to get there. Just accept it.

  • I'm going to stand up, take a step, and repeat, repeat, repeat. That's the world's simplest success recipe.

Scott's Three-Step Approach

  • Name the behavior you keep repeating that keeps giving you a result you don't want, and admit you've worn yourself out.

  • Decide that's it, you're done, and write down the smallest roadmap step you can take this week in the new direction.

  • Stand up, take that step, and repeat it daily, using your frustration as fuel instead of a reason to hand the work off.
