Episode Description

You listen to podcasts. You listen to your people. You listen to AI and to whoever is loudest in your feed. When was the last time you listened to yourself?

I grew up talking. My mouth got me in trouble, and my mouth got me out of trouble, so the old advice about listening twice as much as you speak took me a while to swallow. Then I took it somewhere almost nobody expects.

Today I hand you a four-letter word that will change how your whole week feels. People yell at me when I say it. It works anyway.

Featured Story

I went dark this week. Not all the way. I was buzzing in my Face Your Passion group, chatting with people, loving every minute of it. Then I slipped away and just sat with my own brain for a few days.

You can hear it if you listen closely to this week's shows. Those are my thoughts, nobody else's.

Then my buddy at the gym came looking for me. He had not seen me in about a week because I was there at different hours. Man, I have not heard from you. We ended up having one of the best conversations we have had in months.

Important Points

  • You are not short on information. You are short on time alone with your own brain, and that is a different problem.

  • Going dark is not going cold. You keep caring, and you keep showing up; you stop asking for permission first.

  • Use every tool you want to figure the thing out. Then close the laptop and make the call yourself, out loud, alone.

Memorable Quotes

  • Going dark makes life brighter. Your creative mind flourishes; you feel more present; you find more meaning in life.

  • We have lost permission to think for ourselves. We cannot move forward without social approval from those around us.

  • Songs used to be written by somebody who sat down and wrote a song. It came out of them, not out of fifteen people.

Scott's Three-Step Approach

  • Pick one decision you have been crowdsourcing and stop asking about it—no calls, no posts, no chat window open.

  • Block a quiet stretch this week, sit down with that decision, and write whatever your own brain hands you first.

  • Come back out and act on that decision before anybody else weighs in, then notice who comes looking for you afterward.
