Episode 5451
• Scott Smith
Episode Description
Some people say work shouldn't define you. I say — why not? If it gets you out of bed and lights you up, embrace it. The trouble is that too many people are running hard with no clear sense of where they are or where they're going. They've got the speed but lost the map. In today's episode, I'm pulling back the curtain on how I actually help people build a life that feels right — starting with three things most people skip and a couple of words that change everything. If you've been spinning your wheels, this one's for you.
Featured Story
A friend called me the other day. He's one of those hustle-and-grind types who's been telling me for years that motivation doesn't work, that it's all fluff. So when he asked if I had a minute to talk, I figured we'd jump on the phone to untangle a business problem. That's what I do. Then he says, "Scott, I just can't get out of bed anymore." I almost laughed. Not to be mean, but here was the guy who pooh-poohed motivation, on a Zoom call, asking me for motivation. We all need this stuff. We're humans. Life is confusing. We figure it out. Or we don't.
Important Points
Awareness lets you see what's happening. The anticipation engine pulls you forward. A peaceful base keeps you steady.
More is on the other side of less. Stop piling stuff on top of stuff and strip away the friction slowing you down.
You can't build a real life on a foundation of debt and chaos. Get your peaceful base in place before chasing anything.
Memorable Quotes
People say motivation doesn't work. Then they call for it. We're human.
You build the empire in your mind, toil on a computer for two years, and never get anything going. That isn't honest movement.
Your awareness and your expectation. That's it. Pay attention along the way, because expectations will change.
Scott's Three-Step Approach
Step 1: Define exactly what you want. Get clear and honest about where you currently stand before setting your goal.
Step 2: As you move forward, closely observe what is happening—note what works and what doesn't each step of the way.
Step 3: Based on what you notice, adjust your goal as needed. Reset your target and keep progressing until you reach it.
