What a great morning! Got a workout in - just a little run on the treadmill, a good Egg White Greek Omelette and fruit breakfast and a flying lesson - where I learned a few things.
I’m landing pretty good these days but today we made the 12 minute, 30 mile flight to Massey Ranch - a 3,500 foot runway just South of Daytona Beach to practice Short Field landings. Everything was going great until Mother Nature got in the way and started throwing wind gusts to 15 Knots without warning. As new pilot - that’s bit much… and makes for a really bumpy ride and a not so nice landings. I landed twice on my own until my I instructor said, “let me show you how to do this”, and proceeded to demonstrate the same kind of landing I had already done - terrible. I didn’t say a word - didn’t need to. Tough day to be in the air and time to go home. Still, the experience of stepping out of my comfort zone gives me such a creative boost that lasts for 24 hours - it’s amazing. It’s one of those..."If I can do this… I can do anything” type of things. When I arrived back at the flight school my instructor said, “Don’t worry, you’ll do better next time”. Funny, after all this time, he still doesn’t get me! The fact is, I did great THIS time. I may not have learned how to do what was on the lesson plan today - but I certainly learned. I was thrilled to have been thrown a problem, worked it out and succeeded. It was a great day. I’m always talking about self-esteem and it’s effect on our success in every area of our lives. Today, and every day, I’m always looking for those little gems that tell me I’m moving forward so I can pat myself on the back even if others don’t. Today I patted myself on the back big-time. So now I’m back at my office. My wife is out on Thursday to give me some quiet time to plan this week’s podcast and I thought I would toss it open to suggestions from you guys - something I’ve never done. So - if there is something you would like me to address on the show, let me know and I’ll work it in this week. Thanks for your support and for making our community such an early success. |
