Let’s Go Fishing
Monday, September 25, 2006

Each day I receive dozens of letters and in the last year have collected over 6,000 from incredible folks all over the world.

I’m always amazed and humbled.  Occasionally, I’m blown away.  Read on to see what I mean.

They say - give a man a fish and he won’t be hungry for a day, but teach a man to fish and he won’t be hungry for a lifetime. I’m only starting to realize this since I began working in higher education: teaching is the best gift a person can give another person.

What you do, Scott, in your training sessions, podcasts and forums is exactly that. You drill into the mind like a mantra - “move, move, move, come on, you’ll like it”. You fill our heads with inspiration and knowledge about exercise and diet. You know that it doesn’t always click right away.

But when it clicks, it clicks bigtime. I know. I spent about a year listening to the MTM shows and MTM minutes, doing small things when I felt like it, telling myself that I wasn’t fat (I was obese at the time, actually). Now people wonder where I get all the motivation.

Well, I have NO problem with motivation. It all comes naturally, like waking up from a long sleep. I go to the gym, to the pool, I jog. It’s what I do. I can hear your catchphrases in my head when I exercise or order in a restaurant: “you don’t want to be caught with a burger in your mouth”. I attended your lesson and now I’m doing homework.

You talk about debt of gratitude, Scott. You talk about socializing with fit and motivated people. Well, it looks like you’re building yourself an army of fit, motivated and dedicated friends. People whom you have taught to believe in themselves and that life can give rewards other than snacks.

Spiritually enriched people, a great majority of whom you have never even seen. People whose lives have changed for the better and they owe it to you and your family.

It’s a hard time for you and it’s great to hear that you’re not giving up, but intensifying your efforts instead. Please know that I’m with you and I’m sure I can say WE are with you in this time and always.

Thank you, Scott!

Leszek
