Minute #18 | Recess For Adults
Wednesday, July 16, 2008

In our busy day-to-day lives, many of us carry planners.  Hey, I’ve been to the seminar too, “What gets scheduled, gets done.” But that sure sounds like a lot of work.

If you’re like me, I’ve been chasing check marks in my daily planner for years – I even scheduled my workouts.  But then I noticed that the workouts kept moving to the next page without ever getting done.  Eventually, I didn’t schedule them at all.

That’s when it hit me, I realized that I was scheduling my workout as part of my workday – right there next to the job I hated to go to.  No wonder I never made it to the gym.  So here’s what I did.

I moved my workout to my leisure time – before work, after work, weekends, it really didn’t matter, as long as I clearly defined it as time for “Me” and not my boss.

The result is, our brains begin to associate exercise as something that we do for ourselves when we want to feel good and have fun – it’s kind of like recess for adults… and I like that.

Hey, it’s all about moving – do some now… so you can do more later.
