HI

I see that alot of people work out with weights.  But does anybody have a work out that you do only body weight execricses?
I have tried lifting weights over the years but without any gain, as a matter of fact the last time I had aroutine I eneded up on one machine down to nothing just lifting the bar I did not like this at all.

Body body weight I am refering to stuff like push ups, pull ups, squates, crunches ect.  There are several websties out there that have killer routines.

Anther nice thing about them is that you do not need a gym to preform them.  At my age I am not looking to buff but an trying to be funtionaly fit.  I want to be able to chase my kids arournd and not get out of breath.  I also want to set an example for them to keep moving through out life.

Hi Bob

I think you just found Scott’s Incredible Portable Push-up.  Body weight can be excellent resistance.  The important thing is to remember to use good form.  Just like with any other resistance training.  Could you share some of the links you’ve found with the routines you are thinking about trying?

HI
This is what I do just about everyday.  I am working on my core.
Hindo Pushup
Hindo Squats
Bridge
waist turner
Stomach Flatter (deep breathing)
Vacuum ( deep breathing)
Side plank
Horazontal pull up
Roll up

The sites that I know of are http://www.mattfurey.com http://www.rosstraining.com http://www.Optimum-Fitness-Network.com
http://www.elasticsteel.com/

There are the ones that I like.  I relly like the phalphisie(sp) of Coach Lomax at the Optimum Fitness network. His books are ebooks and a good price for the info in them.

Matt Furey was the first one that I found.  I started with what he calls the roayal court H pushups, hindo squats and the bridge.  That really made me feel out of shape.  If you are looking for flexablity check out the .elasticsteel. site.  He has some great stufff there too.

Also I belong to a yahoo group weightless_workouts.  Great group of people like on here.  Also there are many more links in the groups links page.

Any more questions ask.

Hi Bob,

Thanks for the links.  It’s great to see new content floating around the forums.

I, too, prefer exercises I can do without equipment.  Push-ups, sit-ups, squats, etc. are all wonderful.  I’ve been known to grab a minute when my boyfriend goes to the washroom to do 5-10 push-ups before he comes back, so they’re definitely portable!

I had a huge shock the first time I did a core training class: I never knew my body could work SO MUCH without even using any weights!

Cheers,
Julie

OK, being blond and all, can you get the definition and bulk from calisthenics? I’m planning on checking a book out on it tomorrow. The gym is hard to get to this week with the kids home for spring break.

I do not know if one can get bulk but it is a way to get a good work out in without haveing to go to the gym eveyday and if you travel you will never miss a work out.

One more site to check out is BronzeBow publishing they also have books .

Julie that is why I like this kind of work out I do not have to worry about hurting myself lifting weights.
At 42 with diabetis and haveing a 4 and 2 year old I want to be around to watch them grow.

Thanks for all the support

All good stuff guys…

I’ve been drawn to more ‘core’ exercises lately (thanks Carlyn for getting me started on cruches!).....

Sit ups, yoga, pull ups, obique twists, push ups, scissors, crunches, lunges.......and lots of stretches......can’t go wrong with any of that.....

I like the idea of doing push ups and adding one a day for a while...nice challenge!

It’s important to know that at the end of the day it’s not the medals you remember.  What you remember is the process-- what you learn about yourself by challenging yourself, the experiences you share with other people, the honesty the training demands—those are things nobody can take away from you whether you finish last or you’re an Olympic Champion.

I have a 30 minute routine that I do now, mostly ab work, but I’ve added pushups to the mix. I really notice the upper back feeling worked when I do that. I’m not looking to bulk up a lot, mostly just tone. But I do like the knowledge that I can kick some mugger’s rear if I had to and he had no weapon. I feel safer when I can flex and show some muscle.

Thanks, Tom. Since that weirdo tried to get into my car in that parking lot around Christmas, I’ve been a bit paranoid. My five foot frame doesn’t pose much of a threat, but some tricep definition may have them think twice. Maybe I should look into martial arts.
