How do I do it rachel, same way you do it- I take a step and repeat. lovessport77 what does it feel like? Really good once I’m done, an hour of anything staight will numb your brain. Toffe, your tired reading it, I’m tired after doing it. So I guess were equal! It isin’t all that exceptional if you consider I’ve been working at this for 10 months gradually stepping it up. (soon I’ll have to run 15 miles before I even go to the gym)I was stuck at 286 for close to 4 months, when I hit a plateau I have no choice to step it up.My metabolisim is so weird that when I take a day off I can put on anywhere from 3 to 5 pounds,as soon as I start the weight melts of again.Usally by Tuesday or Wednesday I’m back to losing weight.

Day 13
Chest, back and arms-11 exercises,12 reps, 3 circuits and 60 minutes on the elliptial
1 hour in the pool

Walking, 3.0 mph, level, moderate pace, firm surface-80 min 385 cal
Swimming laps, freestyle, slow, moderate or light effort-55 min 691cal
eliptical trainer-60min 1069cal
Weight lifting (free weight, nautilus or universal- type), power lifting or body building, vigorous effort-30min 314cal
total:225 min 2459cal-Shawn’s sexy new bod! Priceless
Can anyone guess why the numbers are lower today? Did I slack? Hell no. I actually had to work a slight bit harder today because I dropped 3lbs- todays weight 277,yesterday 280.

Shawn - I see the answers are in the math.  You weight is double mine so you use double the calories.
The dilemma, gain weight, burn more calories so I can lose weight faster.  No, No No....just the thought is making my head spin.

I’m wondering if some of your weight fluctuations are actually changes in water retention.  Buckets of sweat do weight something.

Paula,
I actually weight myself before, during and after my workouts.Yesterday 277(starting weight all time low!) was my starting weight. when I left it was at 273.8. I will sometimes weigh in twice in a day, after swimming I’ll drop another 2lb. I probably don’t drop as much as the gym because I swallow some of my enviroment tongue wink .I have read that the healthier you get the more water you retain. I think I just have to be more careful on the weekends.I write everthing I eat Monday to Friday. Saturday is binge day,the only day I will eat things like potatoes(in the french fry form),red meat and many other forbiden pleasures.Sunday is my rest day but I try to be good, but I don’t log what I eat. This weekend I’m going to try to log Sunday.

P.S-Paula as soon as I’m down to 250 I’m giong to start wearing a weighted vest.

Do you also log your water intake? You seem to have a great plan and it’s working, kudos.

Thank you Rachel,
But you are truly inspiring, I admire your openess, and the way you share who you are.

Day 14-cardio or “Life Gets in the way-Adapt” or “Shawn’s wild and crazy walk!”

I’ve heard it said,"A true warrior looks at obstacles as opertunities to test himself” Today was my test.
I was planning for what I call a “double”,doing my morning and evening work at one time to be able to be lazy in the evening. I do a check to make sure I have everything before I leave,"Mp3 player, check! Cell Phone, check!Swim stuff, check!"So I locked the door and closed it behind me. As I was putting on my shoes I realized I had forgotten my keys. I had 3 choices-one sit there and wait for my girlfriend to get home, this wasn’t an option she gets home 12:45 am.Two, go to the gym and my girlfriend would send the keys by taxi, this was also not an option.I am currently unemployed, got to save every penny. Three, walk to where my girlfriend works, this option was the best,it used two things I had in abundance- time and energy! First I had to plan a trajectery,so I walked to the bus shelter at the corner of my street where I was shore to find a map. I figured that the fastest way was to go over Mount Royal. The city of Montreal is built on and around Mount Royal(792 feet above see level, just a really big hill),it is no Everest but the streets on the mountain can be as steep as 30 degrees.I statrted walking up the mountain and at one point almost gassed on a good 20 degree incline.Passing through Westmount,a very afluent part of Montreal, also being home to at least 2 previous primeministers of Canada. I noticed a familiar green dome like stucture infront of me,it was St.Joseph’s Oratory one of Montreals most majestic churches, also the resting place of Brother Andre, the only Canaidian that I can think of that has been canonized. Montreal is also known as the city of churches. Mark Twain once remarked,"You can not throw a rock in Montreal without it going through a church window!” I had to jump the barricades at the Oratory to get down to street level. This put me on Cote de Neige-english translation-Dimension of Snow? Most Montrealers are French(Quebec has the largest french speaking population in North America). Montreal is probably the only city in North America where you can buy maple syrup on the street corner. Guy in lumber jacket comes up to you and whispers,"Hey buddy, got some sweet maple, just 5 bucks a can!"Remeber kids, just say no! Then passing École des Hautes Études Commerciales or HEC which is part of the university of montreal, HEC is a world renowned business school that is over 100 years old, although the campus looks like it was someting out of a scifi movie.Passing through Outremont the home to large part of Montreal’s Orthodox Jewish Community.I hit Van Horne, a street named after the man who oversaw the building of the first Canaidian transcontinetal railway(Sir William Cornelius Van Horne). Finally reaching my destination 7 miles 3 hours later.
I took some pics with my crappy camera phone.
1-a hill in West mount
2-St.Joe’s Oritory
3-view from St.joes
4-Maple Syryp vendor

I love those photos. Is it always so… purple there? wink Good job on resisting the peer pressure to try that maple syrup! hehe

Thank you for sharing your adventure with us!

Oh, Shawn that is a great way to adapt. You really took a negative and turned it into something great. I hope you were warm enough. Lots of blond moments on here today.

Hey everyboby,
Thank you for the lovely feedback, here is my report for Friday to today.
Day 15-Circuit training Day-back,abs,and shoulders-11exercises, 12 reps each-3 circuits,
60 minutes on the elliptical trainer.
80 minutes walking
60 minutes swimming

Day 16
Circuit training-Arms chest and shoulders-11exercises, 12 reps each-3 circuits
20 minutes on the elliptical trainer.
I was feeling very tired this day and even had a rough time finishing my weights, I later realized that I had done six hours and forty minutes of cardio this week as compared to a little over three and a half (Yes I know justifiying something does not make it right tongue laugh )the week before.

Day 17
Rest day,did the grocceries and prepaired some meals for the next two weeks. I made a really cool hybrid meatsauce 50% meat 50% tofu goodness!

Day 18
Cardio
75 minutes on the elliptical
20 minutes on the recumbant bike.
I ‘m pooped!

That is a great idea, hybrid meatsauce! I’ll bet the meat part has plenty of flavor for the tofu to absorb. Prepping food ahead of time sounds like a perfect way to spend a rest day.

Johnathan,
Superman has Kyptonite, I have food. I figured out that if I cook everyday I will eat everything that I cook, pre-cooking helps me portion control and saves time. My girlfrined and I love to cook, and we try not to eat pre-packaged food. Also my taste in food is kind of expensive, for instance I love Thai curry,it is not cheap at $8.00 a plate so I learned to cook it myself. I also figured out a way to make it less fatning, by using a lite coconut milk and more vegtables(zucchini is amazing in Thai curry). You could almost call me an amatur Graham Kerr(The Galloping Gourmet).Cooking and food are things I am very passionate about.
PS-if anybody is intrested I will post the recipe for Hybrid meatsauce and an interesting technique to give tofu a hamburger like texture.

Shawn, please post the recipe.  I’m interested. Can you use turkey instead of beef?  Do you think I’ll be able to get away with serving my hubby and son tofu, or will they catch on???
