I ran across this info about a new documentary called Two Angry Moms.  These ladies are trying to get school systems to improve the food we offer our children at lunch.

...trying to get school systems to improve the food we offer our children at lunch.

I wish them luck with that. With the exception of the fresh-baked bread served in my junior high school lunchroom (many, many years ago), lunch room food is remniscent of sludge from the black lagoon, and hasn’t improved much to this day.

Of course, if any cafeteria ladies are reading this post, I’m just kidding — heh, heh — your food is nutritious and, er, delicious.

The kids at church, my daughter and the babysitter all complain about the lack of healthy choices. Or at least they are aware that they aren’t available. Reading my daughter’s lunch menu is scary, and I wonder why so many kids are fat. Not to mention that if they have gym that day, there will be no recess. Too much activity? I used to have 3 recesses and we ran in gym class. Lunch never had burgers and fries, or chicken nuggets. I’m not sure what that was on my plate, but it didn’t resemble McDonald’s. And sending lunch is hard with so many food allergies in schools. But I often have to send lunch because they put cheese on everything and my daughter is lactose intolerant. Thankfully there’s beanie weanie, the boy that sits next to her is requesting that I don’t send those anymore though.

Growing up I was very fortunate and lucky to have a loving mom who prepared my lunch for me every day.  As an adult I now brown bag my own lunch every day at work.  I like making food that is good for me and helps me to save lots of money too.  Growing up in the schools the sites and smells of the school made lunches made me very sick to my stomach.  Also I found it hard to believe that the schools did not practice what they preach about nutrition.  When my teachers would talk about good eating many kids would laugh it off.  Would you put bad gas into a sports car? No, you would not even dream off it.  So why are children eating slop and seeing that their bodies are giving them bad performance in return?  After visiting this website for the Two Angry Moms I gave them my support.  Sorry if this sounds like a rant, but the thought of providing bad food to our kids doesn’t settle very well with me.  I am trying to show my 3 year old daughter a living example of good eating.  I try really hard to practice what I preach in hopes that good eating will catch on with my daughter before she heads off to school.  I am a concerned Dad who hopes and prays that my daughter will grow up eating good food.  I try to make sure she sees Daddy enjoying fruit, vegetables, and other good food.  My wife and I prepare good wholesome food so she can see how good nutrious food tastes.  I am glad to see their are others out there who have similar thoughts to me in regards to school lunches and bad nutirion.  Ok I feel better I have spoken my peace in regards to this subject.
