I find it easier to run on the treadmill versus outside....

Hey, there Julie!!
I find I get a better workout inside on the machines...much easier to control the intensity.  As long as you keep your incline at 1% or above to make up outside factors such as wind and uneven terrain.
But I do love a chance to be outside...we don’t get much chance to exercise outside here in Oklahoma.  Spring and fall are the shortest seasons ever!  Gets too hot or too cold too quick.
Right now we actually have some sun but EVERYTHING is wet.  I’m so sick of it.  Tornadoes left and right and lotsa flooding right now.
Rain rain go away....
Good looking goals you have!  Good luck.  I’ll drop by soon to see how you’re doing.
Run, Julie, Run!!

Thanks Danger for your words of encouragement!!! So you and I are in the same boat when it comes to our state’s crazy weather patterns!!!  I will have to remember that about the incline making up for the outdoor elements, I’d love to be able to run outside more, maybe we will have a nice Spring and Summer.

Things were tough for me today, I have days where I can run forever, and then days when I huff and puff to make it through my 5k run.  This morning started off well, the extended family had a gathering at this Amish Restaurant in southern Ohio....so it was a showdown between me and the fried chicken, mashed potatoes, and Peanut Butter Pie....I stuck to the Salad bar, put the salad dressing on the side (to avoid eating too much of that) and sipped happily on water instead of soda.  Came home and worked out.  I was really tired from the ride home but I try to remember what Scott said about how when you move, you seem to get your “groove” back...I do feel more energized now and I think I sweated off that “BLAH” feeling.

Oh yes, tomorrow I am planning on weighing myself to see my progress, I can already tell that i have lost weight in my face and arms....and my waist....and my tummy.....and my...well you get the picture.

Hope you all are having a great weekend!!!

They all can’t be great workouts.  If they were the great ones would be just average.
I know what you mean though.  Sometimes I hit that zone and I love it...some times, not so much.

BTW, you can call me Chad.  Danger4dollars was just the login name I used to join the website, before I knew I would be doing the forum thing.  (it’s the name of a music project I work on).

The days where you have to really push yourself to make it through because of the “I don’t wanna” are the times when I feel like I’ve really succeeded. I still don’t feel great after, but the knowledge that I could still make myself do it is wonderful.

Today I ran a 5 K again....again, it was a tough one to get through.  I am awaiting the next workout when I can get into that zone and it almost seems easy!!!  I stepped on the scale this morning to chart my progress, I have lost 10 pounds!!  I am still maintaining my position on weighing myself once a month, for me, tracking the number on a daily basis can really mess with my self esteem, so I avoid focusing on the number and focus on the “FEELING” of being healthy.  I am also being a good girl and not snacking at night, for some reason, when I work out, late night snacking just doesn’t tempt me.  (Although sometimes those Taco Bell commercials are inticing......open until 2am!!! lol) I am looking forward to another great week of healthy living.

Thanks to all of you checking in with me, you guys give me a boost everyday!!!!

You’ll get there again. And because of the hard workouts, you’ll really love the easy ones. You may need to take an extra rest day, or change your workout to something that just sounds fun. Nothing says you need to keep to the status quo all the time.

Well yesterday was a really good day, I loved to see that my hard work and dedication has been paying off.  Ten pounds, wow, I feel so different about these 10 pounds then the weight losses of my past, I actually LOST weight by EATING!!!  Sometimes I could just kick myself because it took me this long to figure out that starving myself wasn’t the only way to lose weight!!!  I may actually reach my weight goal sooner than I think (I’d like to weigh 115-120).

Today is a bit hectic, I am trying to get my house in order today, and need to go to the grocery store tonight.  Maybe I will work off a few calories walking that enormous store!! I hope to squeeze in a workout this evening, if not it will be a rest day for me (haven’t had one yet this week).  I really like to get my workouts in, it is “Me time”.

Tomorrow I plan on doing a double up, it is supposed to be FABULOUS weather tomorrow and I plan on taking advantage of it.  I plan on doing my normal run on the treadmill and then go for a walk in the afternoon with my baby.  It will be nice to give an extra boost to my body, burn off more of that fat!!

If I do get my workout in this evening, I will post it on here.

And to all you reading this: GO OHIO STATE BUCKEYES, CRUSH FLORIDA in the National Championship in Basketball!!

(Sorry scott, I know you are most likely rooting for Florida, but you can’t give me enough motivation to root against my Buckeyes!!!! No Way!!!)

YES! GO BUCKS!!!! LOL!!!
Congrats on the 10 lbs. I think you’re doing super. I hope I can run 5K someday. I just may do a double up tomorrow myself. Hit the gym in the morning and do a long walk after work. We have been really lucky with the weather lately and if it’s true that we may see snow at the end of this week I want to take advantage of this sunshine right now. You’re so lucky to be at home. Sitting at my desk all day staring at that blue sky drives me nuts!

well first let me address the defeat of my Buckeyes, great effort, nice sportsmanship, and there is always next year!!!

Yesterday was a rest day for me.  Overall pretty restful, just had to get a few things done around here...now if only Scott had a podcast that motivates you to clean your house.......

Today I ran 4 miles again!!!  The body is getting stronger and leaner I can tell!!  It really is an amazing thing, the capabilities of the human body.  I don’t know why we abuse it so.....
I also did push ups, with my 19 month old sitting on my back (not my choice, but hers)- I did 50 of them.  This evening I planned another jog, only 1 or two miles since I got good mileage in this afternoon.  It is such a wonderful day today so I am going out to enjoy it… Life is getting good over here!!!

Amen on the housecleaning. I’d rather hit the elliptical for an hour than clean for 15 minutes.

Great job, Julie! Is the 4 miles outside? I’m happy with 1/2 mile outside. And baby-assisted push ups are killer.

How tall are you? Your weight goal sounds so tiny. Yes, I’m nosy.

Bree, nosy??? Nawwwww.  I run indoors usually, on the treadmill....I use the programmed courses-the incline ranges and then the fan, I figure that makes up for the elements outside.  Like you, we don’t have many sidewalks or space on the road to run safely.....so it limits me to indoors.  Let me give you a bit of history with me....before I got pregnant, I was an avid runner.  I really didn’t run to time it or whatever, just for enjoyment.  I usually ran 5-8 miles a day-6 days a week.  I worked out at the gym everyday, did ab classes, Powerflex classes...you name it.  I got pregnant and well, my lifestyle changed ALOT. I had a VERY complicated pregancy and was put on bed rest for almost the entire pregancy....I was not allowed to even get up to eat, just to shower and use the bathroom, that is it.  So I went from SUPER active, to not at all.  Due to my complications I went through a slew of tests and found out that I have a genetic blood disorder that can lead to strokes, heart disease, blood clots, and well, hard pregancies.  The doctors tell me that I NEED to be living my life to textbook standards to give myself the best chance possible.

So here I am, trying to regain all that muscle I had lost and regain the passion for running that faded over time.  Let me see, I began trying to shed this “baby weight” (I gained over 60 pounds with my pregnancy, some of that water due to my severe Preclyampsia) in January....didn’t lose much at all since I still wasn’t motivated.  Prebaby I weighed in at 115 at 5’4 (and a half), that may sound “tiny” but I am really a small boned person, I doubt that I’ll get that small again, but I’d like to get int the 120s.....which is suitable for my height.  Seems like those 10 pounds FLEW off, but I still have a ways to go.  I am working hard towards it....and you have been really a positive influence on me, all of you guys have.  Without all of you, I’d still be wondering how I was going to get healthy again.

I know you most likely didn’t want to know ALL of that but that is what you get for being nosy......Just kidding ha ha.

Hope you all have a great night!!

I’m really glad you shared your story with us.  I think you will find that since you were very fit once, that it will come back much faster than you might think.  The 120’s sound like a great target weight for your height and body type.  You will probably refine the weight goal when you get closer and you see how you feel.  The important goal is to get healthy.  You heard from the motivator of last resort, and I’m sure you want to be around for your daughter for many many years.  That’s should be your real motivation.  Looking good is just a bonus.

Keep up the great work, and thanks for all the posting you’ve been doing.  You’ve really been providing a lot of support for other MTM members.

Good afternoon folks!!!  Ok so after Scott’s latest podcast about getting up early...well I feel really guilty about my afternoon only workouts!!! lol.

Kind of a dismal day here today, made it difficult to want to do ANYTHING, but I still paid my treadmill a visit.  I ran 3.25 miles today, not bad.  Sweated those toxins out.  I also reserved a few books at the library on health and fitness, and even reserved the Biggest Loser Workout DVD for future use. Thought that would add a bit of a mix to my workouts.  Anyone do that one?

Todays Exercise:
3.25 miles on treadmill using incline at 5.5mph
3 1 minute intervals of “Plank” position

Thanks for your story. It sounds like you will be at your target before you know it. Keep up the great work! And BTW I have to give you a high-five for still getting your workout in today. It IS dismal here in NE Ohio and we have a snowy Easter to look forward to. After yesterday’s fun in the 75° it’s going to be hard to stay motivated. And don’t worry if you don’t get up early. You’re doing what is best for you. Kudos!
Question: What is a plank position?

Tell me about it!! Mother Nature is playing a cruel joke on us I think!  (Did I just see a snow flake?!?!) I don’t know why it is so hard on cloudy days....

Ahhh the Plank, picture yourself doing a pushup (not the girlie kind) but you are holding your body up by balancing yourself on your forearms instead of hands....you hold that position, horitontal to the floor for as long as you can, it works your core.....I think it is a yoga move actually but I am not a Yogster....I learned it in Ab Class....it is great!
