Today, I mark my 31st day of this challenge (I started a bit earlier than that, I but I don’t count that in the official tally of 100 days).  I can’t believe how far I have come in 31 short days.  I admit, when I began this challenge I really doubted I’d make it to day 15, I knew myself, I knew I’d come up with excuse after excuse not to do it...but I guess I don’t know myself very well lol.  I didn’t make excuses, I plugged along, listened to the MTM podcasts like it was my second religion, and just moved.  I knew I was capable of the exercise, just not capable of finding the motivation to do it.  That is where Scott stepped in.  Who knew a total stranger could become your “virtual best friend” and your biggest cheerleader?  I just wanted to take this day and tally all the changes in my life since 31 days ago....

1-I am a more positive person
2-I generally happier everyday
3-I am beginning to feel sexy again! (meeeooow)
4-I feel physically stonger
5-I have the motivation to take care of myself, physically, spiritually, and emotionally
6-I am nearly at my fitness goal of running 6 miles (I am up to 5.25 miles)
7-I find the fun in physical activity
8-My “rest” days aren’t days that I look forward to
9-I have met many folks I can identify with and who are positively fantastic folks (um, that is you guys who read this lol)
10-I have become dependant on my weekly MTM podcasts and go thru withdrawl if I go a few days without listening to one
11- And finally, have lost 12 pounds so far as a bonus!

Today was supposed to be a rest day, but I figured that since I got up early this morning, might as well make good use of my time, so I did a short 5k run.  I may take a rest day later this week, but figured an extra day of activity won’t kill me.

Have a great weekend MTMers.

Julie,
With that great attitude, you are going to go far! If you don’t mind me asking what are your goals? Your list has inspired me to write my own. Congrats on the 12 pounds!

Congratulations on the 12-pound loss! I love that you put it at the end as a bonus after all the other things that are so much more important than the number itself. 31 days is a significant number, it represents one month’s time, and look all that you brought into your life in that relatively short time. Great idea to stop and reflect, you’re a positive force on these forums!

Oh thanks Jonathan!!!  Sometimes I have to remind myself that 12 pounds is a big deal, with all these folks on here losing 50 plus pounds and all, I know my weightloss will involve time.  Something I have to be patient about!!

Shawn- I found it crazy that in only a short time on this challenge I have met a lot of my goals.  I started this challenge wanting to be able to run 6 miles, I am on mile 5.25.  I wanted to use weights and tone (and I am doing that, lost over an inch in those arms, and hark! I see shape in them!!), I wanted to take a exercise class something (looking into that), and I wanted to look better in clothes (I am on my way there)

I don’t think I am delusional in thinking that I could very well be down another 5-10 pounds be the summer time, have shapely arms, run 6 miles, and all the fun stuff.  I visualize it often.  I see it in my future, I know I will get there!!

You WILL get there.......and the timing doesn’t really matter, just an extra motivation....

Keep up the great job!  See you at the next 10K!

It’s important to know that at the end of the day it’s not the medals you remember.  What you remember is the process-- what you learn about yourself by challenging yourself, the experiences you share with other people, the honesty the training demands—those are things nobody can take away from you whether you finish last or you’re an Olympic Champion.

Hi Julie,

For your class, have you tried community college, adult ed or the local recreation dept?  I will be taking some classes over the next six weeks through adult ed.  They have a lot of different classes.

Hey Muscles, i will have to look into the area college for some fitness classes (never thought of that!!!), for some reason I have the misbelief that I have to be in shape in order to take these classes, but I have to remind myself that the purpose of those classes is to GET INTO shape.  It is like the “gotta get skinny” in order to go to the gym complex people have.

Shawn, I am focused on checking off all my goals, as you know, this challenge is about focus.  Life is so much easier when it isn’t blurry.

So far this afternoon, I am debating whether of not to take a rest day, haven’t had one this week so far......still arguing with myself on that one.

Hey Julie

Loving the list! Did you ever think you’d feel this way about exercise? A rest day doesn’t have to be a complete non-movement day, it can be a day where you ease off a bit and give your body a chance to relax more than usual.

Well I gave in, I had a rest day today!! This coming week will be another week of me kicking it up a notch.  I thought that my passion for exercise died awhile ago, it is way too easy to get used to being well....fat.  I am glad I am making changes, life sure is easier, and well, more fun!! Tomorrow I will be doing a double up again, trying to stretch out that burn for as long as possible!!!

I used to hate Mondays.  I used to hate getting up before 8am.  I used to hate a lot of things the more I think of it lol.  Well this Monday is different.  I have found myself since beginning this challenge that I look forward to Mondays, starting my week off doing something good for my body.  I look forward to waking up in the morning and exercising...I guess Monday’s set the pace for the rest of the week. If I have a good Monday, I will have a good week!!  I am doing double ups this week, I actually am not doing the double up to lose weight faster, I have found that when I exercise in the morning AND in the afternoon, my energy level stays up.  It is nice.

I started this Monday morning off with 30 minutes of weights (in between weights I jogged in place to keep my heart rate up).  This afternoon I have planned out a juicy little run, hope you all are excited about your workouts this week, it is going to be a great week!!!!
