Dang. We got booted out of our luxury accommodations. Some people have no sense of humor.
With this beautiful view to our left, we headed off down the road, passing by the Riomar Country Club and all the luxury homes surrounding it. Further down the island we moved onto the inland side along the Indian River / Intracoastal Waterway. We passed the Moorings Country Club before finally letting Paula talk us into kayaking a little while.
We pulled out our Virtual Kayaks and popped into the water and started paddling. The water is beautiful around here, and before we know it, we had spotted a dolphin and a manatee!!! How cool is that?
We decided to get back on land once we got to Round Island Park. This area got hit by the hurricanes of the past few years! We were soon headed south again on Highway 1A along the beach. We passed Avalon State Park, but didn’t stop until we got to Fort Pierce Inlet State Recreation Area. We wandered around a bit, helping to clean up the beach with some Boy Scouts, and just generally enjoying the views.
We hit the road again and crossed back over the Indian River on the North Beach Causeway and we found ourselves in Fort Pierce, which calls itself The Sunrise City. We wandered through the Farmer’s Market sampling the fruit. Then we toured the botanical gardens before making our way here for a bite to eat.
Wiping the crumbs from our chins, and belching politely, we headed south down S. Indian River Drive, which runs right along the river. We saw that it was going to be a long, straight shot so we pulled out our Virtual Bicycles and started pedaling. We passed this house which is for sale for only $1,499,000.
We eventually made it though Walton, Eden, Jensen Beach (home to this church), and arrived in the wonderfully-named Ocean Breeze Park. Ocean Breeze Park and Briny Breezes in Palm Beach County are the only two towns in Florida in which all residents live in a mobile home park bearing the name of the town. Isn’t that an interesting fact?!!?
We continued down Indian River Road through Sewall’s Point until we came to Port Sewall. Being down on this narrow point of land, we decided that if we wanted to make progress, we’d have to start paddling again. So we hopped into our Virtual Kayaks and hit the water.
We had consulted our maps and decided to paddle south across the inlet into something called “Manatee Pocket.” We paddled and paddled and looked and looked, but didn’t see a single manatee. So we paddled back north across the channel and up along the coast of South Hutchinson Island, past the Sailfish Point Golf Club development. This little bungalow could be ours for only $13,000,000.
We kept paddling up the coast until we ran out of miles at the Marriott Resort. Ahhhh. We got used to luxury during our last stop, so we’re treating ourselves to some oceanfront suites while we accumulate more miles!
