It’s important to know that at the end of the day it’s not the medals you remember.  What you remember is the process-- what you learn about yourself by challenging yourself, the experiences you share with other people, the honesty the training demands—those are things nobody can take away from you whether you finish last or you’re an Olympic Champion.

March 1, 2007:

What a phenomenal day! It was so great that ten things just aren’t going to cover it. That’s right, we’re playing double or nothing!

Gratitude journal, the sunlit edition:
1. I am grateful for Bill, Leanne, and Kasha at D_______’s Learning Centre, who helped me get oriented my first day.
2. I am grateful for Alexis at the Learning Centre, whose office I used today.
3. I am grateful for Vivian, the secretary at the Learning Centre, who helped me fill out my timesheet and thus allow me to be paid.
4. I am grateful for the many handouts pre-prepared by the Learning Centre, which will make my job a whole lot easier.
5. I am grateful for vegetarian sushi.
6. I am grateful for I______, with whom I had a great discussion about religion.
7. I am grateful for P______ and Sensei D______, who helped me learn new stuff at karate this evening.
8. I am grateful for internet cafes.
9. I am grateful for ATM machines that allow me to take out money any time I want.
10. I am grateful for my own ability to be adaptable and learn as I go.

Gratitude journal, the karaoke edition!
1. I am grateful for L.C., who is visiting from Boston and who:
a) makes it look like I can soft-shoe, even though he’s doing all the work
b) gave me many hugs and even one or two kisses
c) paid me a few extremely nice compliments
d) is one of the only people who can kick as high as I can on the can-can
e) was the inspiration for an on-the-spot filk song
f) had his picture taken with “the hotness” (read: Kristen and I)
2. I am grateful for my boyfriend, who is and remains the most fantastic boyfriend a girl could ever ask for.
3. I am grateful for L_______, who suggested that I filk a song in honour of L.C.’s visit.
4. I am grateful for my own bardic abilities, which allowed me to come up with a decent filk in less than 15 minutes.
5. I am grateful for I_______, who provided much mirth.
6. I am grateful for everyone who gave me hugs and flirtation.
7. I am grateful for everyone who sang danceable songs.
8. I am grateful that Montreal is the type of city where women can be included in conversations about the hotness of other women.
9. I am grateful for Chris the DJ, without whom karaoke would never happen.
10. I am grateful for green lights all the way home!

G’night all! I hope your day was as good as mine!

Woo, another great day, despite being at my job (which I loathe)! rasberry

I am totally grateful for-

- raindrops on roses
- whiskers on kittens
- bright copper kettles
- warm woolen mittens

LOL Ok ok seriously now, I’m grateful for-

- another day closer to our goals
- stairs at work and stairs at the apartment, my own personal mini-workouts
- boots that come up to my knee (cute, warm, and perfect for rainy days)
- my sweet boyfriend, who’s supported me through thick (um, literally, me being thick. lol) and thin!
- earphones that don’t buzz (when listening to MTM through my old ones, Scott sounded like a gigantic bee)
- being tall (for a girl, anyway)
- sports bras (seriously where would we be without ‘em?)
- tea bags… a pretty neat invention in my opinion
- the wind against your hand as you hold it out the window, doing 80 on the interstate, so it feels like a part of you is flying (am i the only one that does that?)
- being able to type fairly quickly (I can’t imagine having to hunt-n-peck)
- 60 calorie yogurt
- living at an apartment with a gym
- yummy-smelling candles that make the whole room smell like a bakery
- not crying when i took a shower today (yeah, that’s kind of a rarity for me. i was happy about this development!)
- waking up every morning and finding that yes, the world is still spinning

I’ve been keeping my gratitude journal, but there are a few special things I would like to share - especially the first two.

I’m grateful for the MTM community for supporting me in gaining a level of fitness that allowed me to reach a major milestone in kayaking.
I’m grateful for the time I had with my parents.  After reading Judy and Jonathan’s posts, I realize how important your parents are, even when things are challenging.  My prayers are with both of them and all those who are going through similar situations.
I’m grateful for my kayak - Andromeda is fast, smooth, and carries me safely through rough water.
I’m grateful to have R_ in my life, He treats me like a goddess, and loves to kayak too.
I’m grateful for my home, it’s a place of peace and comfort.
I’m grateful for my cook top and convection oven - It cooks very healthy meals to nourish my body.
I’m grateful for a long hot shower to sooth tired muscles - Add my lemon verbena shower gel, and pure heaven.
I’m grateful to my new manager at work for understanding that I (at 55 in an industry focused on youth) still have career goals beyond collecting a salary and retirement.
I’m grateful for my work, with it’s flexible schedule, opportunities to travel, and interesting projects.
I’m grateful for my cat - my constant companion, 17 years old, survivor of thyroid cancer - anger management issues and all.

I am ME.  I am Just ME.  i’m a little like other cats, but mostly I am just ME.

The brain is like a muscle. When we think well, we feel good.

Always listen to experts.  They tell you what can’t be done and why.  Then do it.

A computer lets you make more mistakes faster than any invention in human history - with the possible exceptions of handguns and tequila.
