June 24, 2007:

(I’m in Ottawa for a wedding, so we get a special 15-item gratitude journal instead of the usual 10.)

1. I am grateful for the amazing suite we got… at no extra charge.
2. I am grateful for adjoining rooms that makes the suite seem even bigger.
3. I am grateful for complimentary internet access.
4. I am grateful for a fridge in our room that lets us keep groceries and thus (in the long run) spend less money.
5. I am grateful for D___ and B___, who fed us dinner yesterday.
6. I am grateful for the hotel gym, which allowed me to get in an hour of cardio this morning.
7. I am grateful for I___ and K___, who kept me company for much of yesterday.
8. I am grateful for the experience of a baby falling asleep on my chest.
9. I am grateful for my camera, that let me take pictures of the aforementioned baby.
10. I am grateful for the pool at D___’s apartment and its accompanying hot tub.
11. I am grateful for R____ and S___, who came over to visit, with baby H___ in tow.
12. I am grateful for my oh-so-sexy red shirt.
13. I am grateful for the nightlife of downtown Ottawa during the jazz fest.
14. I am grateful for I___’s decision to bring down his stereo so we can listen to music.
15. I am grateful for my podcasts, which keep me occupied while on the treadmill.

Cheers,
Julie

A friend sent me this email. You may have seen it, but I think it is worth sharing:

I AM THANKFUL:

For the wife who says it’s hot dogs tonight because she is home with me and not out with someone else.
For the husband who is on the sofa being a couch potato because he is home with me and not out at the bars.
For the teenager who is complaining about doing dishes because it means she is home and not on the streets.
For the taxes I pay because it means I am employed.
For the mess to clean after a party because it means I have been surrounded by friends
For the clothes that fit a little too snug because it means I have enough to eat (we can add here: and MTM so we can fix that!)
For my shadow that watches me work because it means I am out in the sunshine
For a lawn that needs mowing, windows that need cleaning, and gutters that need fixing because it means I have a home
For all the complaining I hear about the government because it means we have freedom of speech
For the parking spot I find at the far end of the parking lot because it means I am capable of walking and I have been blessed with transportation
For my huge heating bill because it means I am warm
For the lady behind me in church who sings off key because it means I can hear.
For the pile of laundry and ironing because it means I have clothes to wear
For the weariness and aching muscles at the end of the day because it means I have been capable of working hard
For the alarm that goes off in the early morning hours because it means I am alive

And finally, for too much e-mail, because it means I have friends who are thinking of me!
Live well, laugh often and love with all of your heart.
