BTW- The movie cost $32 million to make and grossed only $18 million. So I guess the author forgot to use his own thoery and make this more of a success. Unless he manifested a $14 million loss from the universe.

Kevin,

I think you got the wrong “secret”.  Here is the link I found which says it cost $ 3.5 million with -0- box office since it was released direct to DVD.

You’re right. I looked at “Laws of Attraction”. I guess the producers of that movie didn’t know The Secret.  tongue rolleye

I should get an itunes card and buy that.

Is that narrated by a woman? Because I remember hearing a sample on itunes and it was a woman narrating it. Or does it switch off over the course of the book?

I just heard about “The Secret” so I decided to see if my local library has it.  They have the DVD, Audiobook and the book in print.  So, I am checking out all three.  I figure with the Audiobook I can rip that to my Ipod and listen to that at my own pace.  With the DVD I started watching it the other night and have really enjoyed it.  Lots of great concepts here and will probably watch this again to see the whole thing.  If I like the DVD will probably buy my own copy at Ebay for cheap.  I have always looked to my library and they usually have it, why buy it when you get the knowledge free at your local library.  Will report back later with more information in regards to this.

The library called me and they have the books on Cd for the Secret.  So I picked that up yesterday from the library.  I have started listening to that as well.  Interesting how similar the Audio book and DVD are.  I listen to it every chance I get know.  I will listen to this often.  This is some great stuff

I bought the book a few weeks back and was very surprised about the powers we have to Create our own Universe!!  I so believe!  Going for the Gold: Premium Membership; Visualizing it, Believing it, and very GRATEFUL for it!

Hey kevin!!! You aren’t alone in your opinion, I feel the same way.  I am a Christian Gal and prefer to depend on my faith in God and prayer versus a pop psychology book...this whole topic for me is like the debate whether to teach creation along with Big Bang and evolution theory in schools, it is only fair to promote all types of opinion, feelings, and thoughts on the subject.  Thanks for sharing your opinion on here. I too thought I was the only one who didn’t buy into The Secret (whose “ideas” really aren’t that new anyways).

While I do find myself interested in “The Secret”, what I have learned from John Diamond(MD psychiatrist) about BK(Behavioural Kinesiology) has given me a much clearer picture on positiveness than anything else I’ve encountered on the subject. Understanding the energetic balance that is required to be optimally happy and successful. i.e, the better you feel, the better life is in every way.

Tell me if I have this right. The Secret, to me, just seems to be somewhat of a mental trick, maybe. Dress up a very simple concept: Think positive, focus on what you want, and you will get it. Yes, because when you have reached the mental state they are speaking of, you will be compelled to go out and get what it is that you want! That at least was my impression of the core message behind The Secret. And as far as not explicitly stating that you have to do any actual work, some of it’s teachers stated so on Oprah, if my memory serves me correctly.

When I call it a “trick”, I don’t mean that in a negative sense. But all that I’ve seen of The Secret gives me the strong impression that it is largely re-packaging common sense into something perhaps a bit more motivating and resonating. If it works, it’s simply a testament to the tried and true, which is positive, goal driven thinking.

What you have become is the result of what you have thought, not simply because you THOUGHT, but because you DID(or “moved") out the positive energy you created. Right?

Am I getting the sense of it?

Strangely, even though The Law Of Attraction seems be based around the notion that the universe manifests your desires. As if to say that there is another force working to make reality out of thought? That would appear to contradict The Secret, though, right? Because I could have sworn I heard on Oprah that The Secret involves actually physically doing the things necessary to achieve a specific outcome.

Can someone help me out on this? I don’t know if I understand this.

I think you bring up some good points, Brandon.

I can see where there may be a contradiction between the belief that the Universe will deliver something to you, versus actually bringing success to yourself through your actions. I may be completely off, but for me those two are one in the same. Its clear that we live in a physical world, so it makes sense that in order to create any success - or manifest it by any means - requires a bit of action on our part. Even if the Universe is trying give us a Lamborghini, it won’t do any good if we don’t first open the garage to let it in. It is our initial action (and of course the mental changes that accompany our actions) that open the possibility for more ‘positive’ events to touch our lives.

Speaking in a purely physical sense, as living breathing people, we are always consuming and expending energy, which affects the people and objects around us. In the same way that I can disrupt the living energy of a plant by squashing it with my foot, I can have an impact on the energy of someone standing right next to me just by yelling, or smiling, or even breathing a little heavier.

I’ll borrow one of the better comparisons I’ve read about this subject - again, relating to the plain ol’ physics of the power of energy. Think about tuning in to a radio station. You want to listen to Rock 103.9 FM (in Gainesville, FL smile). There’s no way you’re going to get that signal if you’re dial is set to 98.3 FM, or 107.2 FM, or anything other than 103.9 FM. It’s a simple source emitting signals at a specific frequency.

You can apply the same idea to the frequency of energy that you and I emit every day. If I’m sitting around feeling (and being) lazy, I am physically engaging a certain (minimal) amount of energy that will affect my surroundings. I can’t expect to tune into the “active” station if I’m stuck on “Lazy FM”. How am I supposed to have all the wonderful things associated with an active lifestyle if I am not receptive to the ‘active’ frequency because I’m still being lazy?  In other words, I need to take a physical step to align my personal frequency with that of my desired state.

I think you’re exactly right - “The Secret” (the book, dvd, etc.) is just a way to bring a motivating common sense way of thinking to the public. It’s nothing new. It’s nothing that anybody who is successful hasn’t figured out for themselves. “The Secret” may bundle it in different words, and offer a compelling presentation; but the principle behind it is simple, clear, and timeless. We just need to “get on the same page” with our desires, instead of waiting for someone to plop our dreams in our laps. When we do, we open the doors for all sorts of opportunities. Some see this as the “Universe is manifesting...”; some see it as hard work paying off. Either way, I think the only way to invite positivity into our lives is to make sure we offer a welcoming hand, by taking the first step.

I also have a copy of the book, The Secret by Rhonda Byrne.

It has helped me so much this past year, I absolutely recommend it to anyone. It may be a little more expensive but is totally worth the extra pennies.
