Here’s something kinda funny and I’m sure the Universe sent it my way. Just last week I was setting up a layout at work. (I’m a graphic designer). I was making changes to a slogan going on a Goodyear blimp. The slogan underneath the Goodyear logo reads “Get There”. I had to make changes to the font and how it wrapped onto the blimp. I used the software to manipulate “Get There” for several different layouts, all the while listening to MTM in my ipod. This is when Scott assured me, “You’ll Get There, I promise you, you’re gonna Get There.” I looked at the words on the big blimp as he chanted them out. Now i know without a doubt I am going to Get There!
I’ve been listening to The Secret while working out, and even while sleeping! Just trying to asborb it as much as possible. I also am checking out two other sources....The Magic of Believing - slightly older and maybe a bit dated I’m told but basically the same concept and The Laws of Attraction by Esther and Jerry Hicks.
A funny thing happened to me in the gym the other day, I was trying to in-vision what I would look like when I shed that extra person I’ve been carrying around my gut, I looked up and saw a familiar face it was the guy in the movie the secret who was talking about visualizing his dream house and finally getting it. I was quite shocked, most of the time they have the TVs on sports channels next to that it was a french station(I live in Montreal the majority of the population is french)on a show called Salut-Bonjour.(Loose translation-hello good day).
See what happens when I am away from the forum for a while. You go an have a whole big discussion on The Secret. I am a big believer in it and have been putting it to work for sometime. If I may, I’d like to suggest other material that might help people in their pursuit of the Law of Attraction.
Ask and it is Given by Jerry and Esther Hicks
The Attractor Factor by Joe Vitale
Facing the Giants (DVD)
Thanks guys, it means alot to me hearing it discussed in a health and fitness based forum.
I know I getting on this thread a little late but I just noticed it. I had the opportunity to watch “The Secret” way back (well it seems like way back) in September. Learning about the LOA was an awesome eye-opener for me. It’s helped me put my life in perspective and allowed me to achieve many things since September. For me, “The Secret” was really a window into the amazing world of creating your own reality. I’ve had the opportunity to read many authors like Jerry and Esther Hicks, Osho and Neale Donald Walsh. Joe Vitale is on my list as well. I also have to say that I’ve grown exponentially on the spiritual side because of this movie and the books that it has allowed me to read afterwards. I know now that I will never cease to grow and, best of all, I get to CHOOSE which way I do!
The Secret For those Christians who are concerned about it—there are Biblical principle at play here. I’m going through them now as part of my “homework” from my dr. & I’m going to be putting them up on my web site when I get through with the project. If you want to know more, then email me privately or IM me....
I’d like to hear your explanation of this. I’m late to this thread and haven’t seen the movie nor do I have any desire to. I’ve read the posts in this thread and think that this “Law of Attraction” is complete and total heresy.
I don’t know how any “law” that suggests that anyone other than God himself controls the universe can be considerred Biblical. That’s not what MY Bible says.
I recently watched the Americal Idol special that raised money for the starving orphans in Africa. I don’t think any amount of energy focus these kids do is going to make a T-bone steak appear on the dinner table.
BTW- The movie cost $32 million to make and grossed only $18 million. So I guess the author forgot to use his own thoery and make this more of a success. Unless he manifested a $14 million loss from the universe.
Sorry to rain on the parade. Everyone has their own beliefs. If I’m alone on this one I’ll to myself.
I think debate is good. The way I take the secret is that the way your outlook is determines how you see things. OK, here’s a simple example, you walk into a place and someone is looking at you.
You could take this to mean many things, if I’m in a good mood, I really don’t think much of it and smile at the person and go about my business.
Bad mood and I think they’re thinking horrible things and are grumpy with me.
Feeling sexy, and I think they think I’m sexy.
self conscious, and I think they’re thinking I’m fat and ugly and need to disappear.
I could keep going. But the person may be just spacing and not even see me. This is how I take the secret. And if you want something and focus on the outcome, the outcome is more likely to happen (self fullfilling prophecy). If I think about chocolate, guess what I’ll end up gettting. This is not magic, and I don’t think anyone really thinks it is. Just be good, focus on the good, and the world will be good (at least that’s how you will see it).
I think one thing the movie did not mention, and which Scott does when he speaks about the Law of Attraction, is that you still need to *move*. You put out the intention, you feel how it will be when you get it, and then you move to go get it. Sure, thinking good thoughts about children in Africa won’t put dinner on their table. But if you’re thinking good thoughts about them, and then go out and donate to a charity, you’re putting food on their table.
Another example: if I want to be fit and healthy, I need to do a few things to get there. I need to visualize what it will be like to be fit and healthy. I need to feel what it will be like, internalize it. And then I need to figure out what I need to do, and go do it. The first two without the third won’t work. But the flip-side is that the third without the other two likely won’t work either. Many people win the lottery and within a few years are worse off than before: more debt, more financial crisis. They weren’t ready to be ready; they hadn’t visualized or felt it. They still felt poor. And so despite their windfall, they returned to being poor.
To bring this into a religious context: prayer by itself will not accomplish your goals. You pray for what you want, and then you begin to set the wheels in motion to achieve it. The Law of Attraction is similar: you visualize / internalize what you want, then go about trying to attain it. You put your faith in a higher power (God, the universe, the law of attraction, or what-have-you) that will help you along and bring you closer to your goals.
So… that’s my take on it. This isn’t the only interpretation, and it might not even be the best one for you. If you like it, feel free to adopt it. If you don’t, find something that works and use that.
I had to sit back and think about how to respond to Kevin’s post. Personally, I’ve found “The Secret” to be a window into the whole LOA world. Thought it has the basic concepts, “The Secret” barely even scratches the surface of the amount of information out there (thats my opinion). If one wants a more information from a religious point of view, I would recommend “Conversations with God” by Neale Donald Walsh. This book provides some great insights and has broken a few barriers in my experience.
I completely agree with Bree and Julie. Think of it as being an active rather than passive participant in the universe. Its changed my life around thats for sure.

Kevin,
I think you got the wrong “secret”. Here is the link I found which says it cost $ 3.5 million with -0- box office since it was released direct to DVD.
You are certainly entitled to have an opinion and I don’t think anyone could have been offended by the way it was expressed. For me, the Secret/LOA means ‘think positive’. Sounds simple and it is.
As Julie said, the first part is the thought, then the decisions follow to help that thought materialise. Actions are certainly important. I also agree with Bree. We must all do what works for us. If this isn’t for you, let it go. You haven’t rained on my parade!
