I was flipping through the channels and stopped on a “Shapely Secrets” infomercial. They claim that you will lose 1 dress size in 14 days in 7 mimutes with “motionless exercise”. WHAT!?!  shock They had all these different women telling their stories, trying on smaller jeans, and crying with joy at losing inches and pounds. The spokeswoman claims that she has scientific studies to back her up. Supposedly you lose 10 lbs and 4 inches from the waist in the 14 days. How in the world is she allowed to tell such tales on TV. “Motionless exercise” there is no such a thing that I have ever heard of!!! Does anyone know what she is talking about. This time of year I guess you will see more of these snake oil salesmen all over the place. This system costs $39,99. I say save your money. Sign up for the FREE MTM community and put one foot in front of the other one step at a time. Slow but steady always wins the race, and anything worth having takes time and an effort. At MTM not only will you gain health, you make friends and discover things about your resolve and inner strength that your never knew you had. Now that I say is PRICELESS!!

I have never heard of this program, so I can’t speak to it specifically....all I know that if it sounds too good to be true.....then it’s probably not!~

There are thousands of fitness experts and health professionals that say that resistance training, carido and flexibility are the three key things you need to do to get and stay fit.....(can they ALL be wrong).

I agree with you, sounds like ‘snake oil’

It’s important to know that at the end of the day it’s not the medals you remember.  What you remember is the process-- what you learn about yourself by challenging yourself, the experiences you share with other people, the honesty the training demands—those are things nobody can take away from you whether you finish last or you’re an Olympic Champion.

That is soooo 70’s!  We must… we must.... we must increase our…

Can anybody say Isometrics?

From Wiki…

Isometric exercise is a form of exercise involving the static contraction of a muscle without any visible movement in the angle of the joint. This is reflected in the name. The term “isometric” combines the prefix “iso” (same) with “metric” (distance), meaning that in these exercises the length of the muscle does not change,[1] as compared to isotonic contractions in which the contraction strength does not change but the joint angle does. Resistance to isometric contractions generally involve the body itself (i.e. pressing the palms together in front of the body) or structural items (i.e. pushing against a door frame).

Yes it works but growth potential is very, very limited.  As soon as you reach it - you better grab some weights.

We usually watch one of those breakfast/news programs and can always tell when it’s Monday - ALL the ads are for weight loss. Apparently, it’s extremely easy, quick and painless!! I also noticed they are all $$$.

The funniest one was the woman who said “Oh, yes, I went back to blahdeblah weightloss because I USED IT BEFORE AND IT WORKED”! I’m watching, thinking, well, if it worked so well, why do you have to go back.....and we know the answer. Because she had learnt nothing and changed nothing in her life.

I’m with Patricia - join MTM, do the 100 day challenge, LEARN and CHANGE your life to get what you want!!

I know people who will believe in anything that promises to get results without doing the work.  it could be weight loss, income, happiness, fulfillment, fame . . . . . .  I truly believe that if it’s too good to be true, it probably isn’t.

Each one of those programs cost $$$ to join, make unrealistic promises, and in the end, some people may have success (usually due to their own hard work and not the program), but the majority just get frustrated and drop out.  The only ones who benefit from these programs are the ones collecting those $$$.  So my basic opinion would be to join MTM for free - take advantage of the support group here, do the 100 day challenge and learn what it really takes to lose weight or have anything you want in life.  If you’re the type of person who believes that if you don’t pay for something, it’s not worth it, or if you think you want more there’s always the premium membership.

I went to Wiki and looked up Isometrics. Wow, I guess that is all I can say. It’s still hard to believe that someone out there who is desperately unhappy with their weight will give them their hard earned dollars. I had never heard of isometrics. Although Scott, I had heard “We must, we must, increase our.... you get the idea!” I just never knew where that came from. LOL LOL

Hi everyone,

Scott, you jumped into this thread before I did, so I don’t have much to add to what you’ve already written.  Yes, most of the infomercial stuff is, how can I say this politely?, design to part you from your money, regardless of actual fitness results.

We all know what to do, and we don’t need gadgets, gym membership, or specially designed food to lose weight.  Don’t have dumbbells?  Use cans of food.  Don’t have a treadmill?  Hey, that’s a road outside!  Don’t have the special diet shakes?  There’s an entire produce section of the supermarket.

It doesn’t need to be hard!  As Scott would say: lose the drama!  *grin*

Cheers,
Julie

It’s unfortunate that so many business thrive off the despirateness of others.  I’ve done my fair share of the weightloss products but have found that the only true way to succeed is to “take one step & repeat” Good things come to those who wait.  Too bad waiting is so hard!

I have had so many people ask what I’ve done to lose all the weight. I’ve taken to saying “Freaky new diet, eat right and exercise—who knew?” When they want details, I lay it out and you can just see them stop listening. They are the ones who dole out the big bucks for stupid empty promises. I have been in that group, bought tons of diet pills that made me ... different, but no thinner. Usually I was jittery, in a fog, and dizzy. So, not a huge difference.

That’s the thing, isn’t it Bree?

It has to be a lifestyle change that can be maintained. No quick fix, no pills to pop, just watch what goes in your mouth and keep moving!

Unfortunately. I had tried, but I’m not rich, so i had to do what really works. Of course, now I’m addicted.

Don’t get me wrong, Bree,

I think we’ve all hoped there was a quick fix!

I’ve looked at heaps of these things and the only reason I didn’t try them was due to the cost.

Now I’m with you...do the thing that works!
