Ok, I need some help here.

How do I go about getting some long, lean muscles? I’ve always bulked up rather quickly by lifting heavy weights but now want the muscle without the bulk (if that makes sense).

So, do I lift lighter weights more often, do I do yoga/pilates, what do I do??????

HELP!!!!!

Scott, and you weigh in on this question?

It’s important to know that at the end of the day it’s not the medals you remember.  What you remember is the process-- what you learn about yourself by challenging yourself, the experiences you share with other people, the honesty the training demands—those are things nobody can take away from you whether you finish last or you’re an Olympic Champion.

To tri is to risk failure, not to tri is to guarantee it!

Depends.  Lots of folks have extra fat on their body - put some muscle under that and before you know it you look bulky.  Lose the fat and things begin to look better.  That of course is assuming there is some fat.

Lifting lighter weights more often will tone the muscle more and not build so much bulk - I tend to train that way.

Cardio - cardio - cardio will help.  Long and slow - not to burn the muscle.

Yoga, pilates and in general any stretching will also create that look.  Swimming good also.

So - you’re doing the right thing - just monitor and adjust as needed.

Thanks so much, Carlyn,

I appreciate that information. I have an hereditary disposition to bulk up (I was born muscle bound - thanks Dad, and he played competitive hockey until he was 55) and think I’m always going to be a bit more that way. I agree there is a layer of fat that needs to go and I’ve started lifting the lighter weights with more reps. So looks like I’m heading down the right track. I just wanted some confirmation to boost my confidence so I’d keep going. LOL

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!
