Have a great trip, hey, we aren’t going anywhere so we will be here when you get back!!! Your trainer must have a uh, different definition of fun but hey, I bet you secretly LOVED it!!!
Lisa - I look forward to hearing from you on July 3! You are going to do GREAT on your vacation and I just have this feeling it’s going to open you up spiritually and bring you this amazing joy somehow. I don’t know why - I just think so, and if MTM Yoda says so then it must be true!!
Yay Lisa, I’m very excited for you about your trip and I can’t wait to hear about it when you get back! We’ll all be here, eagerly awaiting your stories
I can’t believe it ! I have internet access! I am staying in Fresno, CA and working on the house of a very nice couple in Clovis. I have the pleasure of working with a crew chief from Nevada and a friend of his, 3 Korean teens, 2 chinese teens and 3 kids from my church youth group. We are working on 1 of 23 houses that the sponsoring organization has chosen for repair. I am amazed at how so many cultures have bounded so quickly and learned to work together as efficiently as we have. How could we take THAT show on the road? I will miss the long days we have had together removing a shake roof and replacing it with composite.
I also can’t believe that I worried about getting out of shape on this trip. I am physically exhausted! It is hard work to strip a rrof in 97 degree weather! We finally have it stripped and sheeted and will now be carrying 75 pound bundles of shingles up a ladder to the roof tomorrow. What I love is the fact that I will be able to do it! I practiced today.
I do look forward to coming home and catching up on all your posts. I have really missed you guys!
Hey Lisa!
I’m glad you’re enjoying your trip! It sounds like a really rewarding experience. And your right about staying in shape. I think reroofing a house in 97 degree weather definately qualifies as a Long Slow Burn! Youch! I’m so glad you could pop by and let us know how you’re coming along. Talk to you soon.
Thanks for checking in with us. Sounds like you’re doing the long slow burned to a crisp out there. Make sure you wear sunscreen and drink lots of water. Enjoy the rest of your trip. It sounds like a very rewarding experience.
Lisa - I’m so glad to hear from you!! I’ll repeat it - get lots of water! You’re going to come back with muscles you didn’t even know you had!!! You go girl! What an awesome experience. I am so happy for you. So many great things happening in your life as you set boundaries and decide that YOU are the most important person in your own life!!!
Another great internet connection. We are now in San Fran for a few days. I walked across the Golden Gate and back with a member of our crew and got very sweaty. It feels great to spend that long walking again. Tomorrow will be a rest day as I go to a Giants game. We will be at 6 Flags on Monday and will drive home on Tuesday. It’s back to the weight room and Cardio with Mike again on the 4th of July. I have missed this website so much! I look forward to catching up on your threads and listening to all my coaching calls and such when I get home.
I am home! And I missed you all. I am sore and tired after my 10 days in Clovis,CA but so blessed that I had the opportunity to go. It is hard to believe that one experienced contractor and 10 rank amateurs ( 8 of whom were teenagers) from 4 different churches got worked together for long hours under the California sun to tear off and re-roof a house. I think I got more out of serving this couple than they did in having their house repaired. I am amazed ay how hard I crew worked and how dedicated the kids were in getting the work done. The very last day we would had the option of having crews that finished early on other houses (mostly painting) come to help finish our roof, but we voted to get up 3 hours early and get the work done ourselves. Can you imagine 8 teenagers begging for the opportunity to get up at 4 am to take ownership of finishing a project that they started? I couldn’t have been more proud of them if they were my own kids!
On the way home, my trainer called to change our training time tomorrow. When I told him I was tired and a little sore, he promised there would be very little sympathy tomorrow! I am looking forward to getting back to my routine and working out under more sane conditions.
Lisa, welcome back!! How did reality match up against your fears - did you gain 200 pounds? Or perhaps you gained muscle? It certainly doesn’t sound like a “lazy” vacation!
That sounds like an amazing experience for you. I’m so glad you had the opportunity to go! And so glad you’re back!!
Welcome home Lisa!!!! What an amazing experience. And it’s so cool that those kids were dedicated enough to the project and the team to refuse help. That’s so inspiring. You’re trainer sounds a little scary! Effective......but scary! Have fun today. Any plans for the 4th?
