Ross, thanks for the tips.

Paula, I agree with you about iTunes.  It’s great for the iPod owners, but I think the rest of the non-iPod world has your frustrations, especially since I want to be able to take music I PAID FOR to work and/or on my mobile device(s).

I use http://www.gomusic.ru a lot - 15 cents per song, mp3, no DRM, no programs to download.  I’m not positive about the legality of it but since I pay for the songs I’ve continued to use it. . .each should use @ their own discretion.

Ross - you seem to know iTunes fairly well.  I want iTunes for one thing and one thing only - to download podcasts.  I don’t want iPod services running - I don’t have an iPod.  I don’t want iTunes to create folders or start processes.  I don’t want music in proprietary formats that can’t be transferred to any device I choose.  I don’t want limits on where, when, and how I play my music - it’s MINE!.  Is there any way to do this or should I just scrap iTunes completely.  Almost all of the web site podcast links are for iTunes, but I can’t get it to behave.  I’ve even tried hacking the registry, but no luck.  I’m normally a techie, but this one has me totally frustrated.

Paula

Hi Paula:

iTunes has a download process for podcasts and it is the same process for downloading music, videos and movies. The software jives with the iPod. I’m not sure exactly what is happening for you, but, it may be that iTunes is converting digital files to AAC format or just creating folders in the way it does for an iPod. Probably you may be wanting a format for storing podcasts that you’re familiar with (i.e. what the MP3 player you have suggests … its way). iTunes works especially well with iPods. In other MP3 players I imagine it tries to reconfigure things and that presents difficulties and a learning curve. At this point, I’d suggest the RSS feeds or switching to an iPod. With all this, I’ve been lucky to work with iTunes for a couple of years before buying an iPod; it’s been the best way to buy albums without driving for 20 hours to the nearest record store.

Hi all:

A while back a favourite I-net radio show concluded shut eye  long face  its 10 year run. It was called Rhythm and Soul and was hosted by Rev. Steve (Stocki) Stockman cool hmm  and broadcasted through BBC Radio Ulster.
Below is an iMix compilation of songs heard wink cool smile  on Rhythm and Soul through recent years; the ten-and-a-half year run of the show brought many listeners songs with a cool hmm  spiritual twist, cool hmm  songs that provoked understanding of the need for social justice excaim and songs of connection.  smile These are songs that can ‘stretch’ you. You’d find these songs at Live Aid and Live 8. Unfortunately, Rhythm and Soul has run its course downer  and this rare, poignant and perhaps eclectic weekly clustering of songs will now receive play on the CD changers and iPods of the show’s listeners. Have a look for and enjoy wink the following iMix on iTunes.

Rhythm & Soul Tribute I-Mix

Hey all:

Many of the songs in this iMix are ones that go well for when we’re feeling low or grappling with adversity.  They’re the pick-me-up kinda songs ... for that process of standing-up, taking a step and repeating.

Maybe take a stroll through the iMix when you need this kind of inspiration and support; and hey, sharing a song is as good as receiving a hug.

Take care,

It’s important to know that at the end of the day it’s not the medals you remember.  What you remember is the process-- what you learn about yourself by challenging yourself, the experiences you share with other people, the honesty the training demands—those are things nobody can take away from you whether you finish last or you’re an Olympic Champion.

So....
It seems there’s lotsa playlists geared towards cardio.
What do you guys listen to while lifting weights?  I really like my weight lifting music to be a bit different from my cardio.  I like more aggressive, slower music.
I’ve been listening to COME CLEAN by Curve for my weights lately.  It’s almost 10 years old...I can’t believe it.
If you don’t know Curve, they’re kinda a electronic rock band with girl vocals.  Great for the gym.

For weights I like ACDC and Motley Crue, some White Lion, basically any 80’s metal. Helps me dig in and get fierce.

Hey, Bree...when I was at the gym today, they had the radio on a 80s channel and they played all that stuff...I thought of you.

That’s definitely my kind of gym music. For some reason my gym plays country or easy listening. Not very motivating.

Easy listening?
Maybe you should talk to your gym about other options.  My gym plays different satellite stations on different days.
Me, I just plug into my iPod and go.  My taste in music is kinda out there and there’s not much of a chance to hear what I like on the radio.
Speaking of my taste in music...did any of you catch my girl, Imogen Heap, on the grammy’s tonight.  She’s the one with the garden growing outta her hair. (Thats how the dude from CSI described her look on the E! red carpet show).  God, I love that woman.

Awww....now all the bloggers are making fun of Imogen Heap’s dress.  Poor Imogen.  A girl should be able to dress with lily pads and carry a frog and a parasol without being mocked!

Yo, you’re talking to a p/t DJ here… so if you’re looking for music, I can make suggestions all day.  Give me a genre, and I’ll hit you back with some great ideas.

If anyone is interested, PM (private message) me, and I’ll see what I can come up with for you.

Yesterday I was on the treadmill and coming to the end of my workout.  I had planned to only go 40 minutes, but then Bon Jovi had better plans for me.  The song “LIVING ON A PRAYER” came on, and I was pumping my arms and unbeknownst to me, mouthing the words.

Suddenly, I turn my head to see a very cute guy walking past, smiling at me.  He wasn’t teasing, he just knew… I was in the zone.

Next thing I knew, it was 45 minutes!  Cool!

I gotta try to make a few playlists when I get some time… hee hee.

Keep on keeping on!
