Deb

I hope you don’t mind but I asked Mr Furless to look at some of your older posts to see where you started.  He is just starting his workout program and wants to do more than he is ready for (or that the motivator of last resort - doctor - recommended).  You have such a great success story, all taken slowly, one step at a time that I thought it would be very helpful for him to see where you started and how small consistent steps could make such a difference.  You’ve been an inspiration to all of us.

Thanks Paula. Not a problem. I did read his journal and thought about posting just about what you said, but thought, who am I to give advice, and I left it to someone smarter and more experienced than me to answer. But since you answered him, I did add my two cents worth too!

"who am I to give advise”......???

Deb,

besides being an inspiration to us all, your very humble (a good trait).

Just your being who you are, your honesty, your successes are advise for us all.

I know I look to you for inspiration, and look forward to your posts, Deb....

Thanks cool smile

It’s important to know that at the end of the day it’s not the medals you remember.  What you remember is the process-- what you learn about yourself by challenging yourself, the experiences you share with other people, the honesty the training demands—those are things nobody can take away from you whether you finish last or you’re an Olympic Champion.

Day 13

45 minutes at 2.4 on the treadmill.

47 minutes on the Bowflex.

52 minutes of yoga. With the addition of yoga, I’m now back to where I was in December. OK, I do admit to feeling stiff today in yoga; but not a lot, I’ll quickly regain my flexibility. Since this is the first day, I will explain: I do a series of 37 poses and today I held each pose for 20 seconds. Approximately 15 minutes on standing poses, 15 minutes on seated poses, and 22 minutes of laying down poses, which also incorporate meditation in them.

I started yoga to fulfill Scott’s third aspect of fitness - stretching. But it quickly became much more than that. Yoga started out being about self-control - move your arm here, adjust your muscle there, hold and feel the stillness. Adjust, hold, be still, adjust, hold, be calm. I found I had control, not only over my muscles, but of my thoughts and feelings as well. Yoga has become a vehicle of self-discovery. My yoga integrates my body, mind, and spirit into a stronger, more self-aware, unified Me. Through yoga, I have learned self-control, self-discovery, self-love. I have begun to unlock the power within!

Day 16

45 minutes at 2.4 on the treadmill

45 minutes on the Bowflex, I was really weak today. Today was supposed to be 13 reps, but on 3 of my exercises I couldn’t manage more than 8.

43 minutes of yoga, every muscle in my body hurts, but I did it anyway. I think another cold has invaded the household and I thought I’d better push on while I was still able.

Thanks Tom, I’ve heard Namaste many times, but no one’s ever translated it before. I read that in your journal. Namaste Tom!
And thanks to Gecko too!

I went to the site Bree suggested to see how many calories I’m burning. http://www.healthyweightforum.org/eng/calorie-calculator.asp?action=submit
I put in my weight and how long I worked, and it said I burned 1522.08 today. Wow! Scott said I wasn’t burning anywhere near that many. I don’t know what to think.

Hi Deb,

It’s funny how on some days we can’t do what we normally do, or think we can do.....

The other day, I was moving from machine to machine.  Mind you, I don’t lift THAT much weight, but building every month…
I went over to the free weights where I have been doing chest exercises on the angled bench.....i started at 25 #’s in each hand last year, lifted them over my head and then down to my chest .....for 15 (that is my set number ) three sets....a couple of months later, I moved up to 30 lbs, since I started doing 20 reps ......I did that for a couple months and went up to 35, then 40 a couple of months later, all after I started doing more reps towards the end.....In January, I moved to 45 #’s in each hand.....I felt like I was doing pretty good (until I looked over at the guy next to me doing 90#s, but I digress).....
Well I could’nt hit 3 sets of 15 with 45#s, so I started with 10 set 1, 8 set 2 and 6 set three.....eventually 10 on all three sets...then 15 on the first....

so the other day, I tried to lift the first set to 15....thinking, “I’ve done this before”......my arms could not even get them over my head!!!1 red face  hmmm mad

Don’t know what is was that day, but I just laughed at myself, and went on to another machine, and took it easy.....

I have to remember, to keep laughing at myself, after all, we are who we are, and if we can’t laugh at ourselves, and all our foilbles, life would just be too tough to take....

Keep up the great work.....and I think Scott was lying all this time, you probably WERE expending a lot more calories than he says!! (I’ll take your side on this one!)

Take care,

Good man… always take the side of the woman.  smile

Me?  Lying?  Oh… from time to time you’ll find me practicing a little good natured directional manipulation.  Hey.. how about that for sounding cool.

It’s all about results… and who has seen better results than Deb?

Hey Deb.... glad to hear how you are doing.  I felt particularlly strong today and wondered where did this come from. I guess we are just ment to have rest days and come back stronger. I’ve been drinking my water. It’s a habit now like the night eating that I kicked. We are getting stronger every day.  Keep up the great work and commitment. There are exciting things ahead.

I’m not sure what to think when the guys agree like that.  Deb, maybe you should ignore all the numbers and just keep doing what you are doing.  It seems to be working for you
