I just thought I would open up this journal and say thanks to Scott for making the official start next week. I have a doosey of a chest cold and was pretty miserable that I was going to miss starting on time. Of course, lots have already started. I’ll start just as soon as I can breathe!
I know, it’s not very much, but I didn’t want to make my coughing worse by walking, so just a little. I can’t tell you all how excruciatingly HARD it was for me to sit on the sidelines while y’all were hard at it; I just HAD to do something! So, a slow start to my 100 Days, but a much needed one! I feel better having started.
I’m one of the new kids on the block here at MTMLand (I think being 48 is still qualifies as “kid") and I just wanted to say “hi” and congratulate you on making the effort you did! It’s SO hard to get moving when fighting off even the tail end of a cold.
It’s great that you’re back and exercising. I missed reading your inspiring posts. Take it easy and work back gradually with your cold. I had a cold the end of last year that really hit me hard - I wound up in the emergency room with acute bronchitis, in part because I tried to do too much too soon.
20 minutes at 2.1 on the treadmill, slowly building up to where I was at the end of the last challenge, 45 minutes at 2.5, slowly being the operative word here.
I think yoga will be the hardest to do now, with breathe being an issue. So next week I’ll start up the Bowflex again, then add yoga after that. I’m trying to go slowly, honest!
I know how frustrating it can be knowing that your progress has slipped and you are not as fit as you were… But it will come back, and, before you know it, you’ll be roaring along on that treadmill again. Patience, patience!
Thanks Gecko, patience isn’t my best virtue, but I continue to work on it! I haven’t exercised since the middle of December, at the end of the last 100 days, but I haven’t lost all the fitness I’d achieved. So far, at 20 minutes, I haven’t felt like I’m pushing myself yet, mostly I’m just going slow for the cough.
Thanks Scott, for jumping in...You remember my original goal? Oh dear… I like the accountability of the 100 days, it’s great incentive to keep at it every day. I’m doing the same thing with water intake, it’s helping there too. But, I’ll bet you knew there’d be a but, didn’t you? Because of my plateau, and my holiday binging, and the fact that I’m just not losing as fast as I did in the beginning, I’m behind schedule for losing weight. I haven’t weighed myself in a while either, too afraid to. I don’t think I can be held accountable to actually lose pounds as that seems out of my direct control. I’m frustrated right now, but I’m working hard to get back on track. I just want to thank you for reminding me that I AM going to get to my goal. I wouldn’t mind if you reminded me, from time to time, that I CAN do this, especially when it appears that I’ve forgotten. Thanks!
I remember how long it took to get to 20 minutes at 2.1 in your first 100 days and you’re already there in the 2007 hundred days. Just imagine where you’ll be at the end. The nice thing about getting fit, even if you lose a little it comes back so much quicker than if you were getting in shape for the first time.
Yuck - wait until your nose stops running to do some of those yoga poses where you put your head down.
You’re right Paula! The first time around I added 1 minute and .1 mph per week. This time I’ve been adding 5 minutes and .1 mph every day. At that rate, I should be back up to speed and time by the middle of next week.
Maybe instead of pounds lost as a goal, it could be getting your walk in, or inches lost. For me it almost seems like a bigger accomplishment if I can do my workout every day of a week than losing the weight. Of course I want both, but getting through a previously difficult routine with ease is the biggest high. Sometimes numbers work against us and do more damage. Keep up the great progress, I’ll be joining you Monday.
I agree, Bree, that pounds can be a frustrating goal. While I can commit to and accomplish a workout goal, I can never guarantee that I will lose a pound, even if I’m doing everything right. But it is nice when the scale shows a decrease!
Thanks Tom. You’re always such a great source of encouragement and motivation! I am getting my enthusiasm back, and I’m ready to rock! Being just half way to my goal, I try to remember the longer view but I’ve still got a long way to go. With so many friends here at MTM cheering me on, how can I do any less than my very best!?!
A great big thank you to each and every one of you fellow MTMers!
I’m betting you’re getting over that cold. Your Day 4 post certainly sounds like it!
I thought about you this morning while I was on the treadmill. I was listening to Episode 50 of the MTM show and your letter to Scott was featured. At that point you had lost about 30 pounds.
Now look how far you’ve come! Just by standing up, taking a step and repeating.
