Does anyone have ideas for snacks that are low in calories and sugar?

Hey great question.

Some of the things my wife and I snack on are:

Celery with Nature Seasonings
Celery and Light Peanut Butter
Sugar Free Jello Pudding Cups w/ light cool whip (this one is a take on the chocolate cloud treat that was featured on The Biggest Loser Show - Season 2.

Hope this helps,
Stu

Stooooo! Nice to place a face with a name! Great blog btw! I’m waiting to see if you make your monthly goal on Sunday wink

Anyways - snacks without sugar?

I like those light syrup fruit cups
‘lite’ yogurt
cottage cheese (I think they also come in fruit blend cups)
Wassa crackers
edamames
protein shakes
trail mix

I’m interested to know what others will say…

hmmm - I’m hungry now;)

OK Carrie.  If you’re going to be MTM’s #1 Groupie - We’re going to have to discuss that “Cottage Cheese” stuff.

There are some foods in life that I just don’t understand and Cottage Chesse is one of them.  smile

As most of your know - my favorite all time number one snack is raw almonds.  Maybe 10 at a time.  The Best!

Back to the cheese…

Actually, as I write this I’m figuring out why.  My Mom was always… always on a diet and there was always
Cottage Cheese in the fridge.

OK - gotta go.  Time to call my Mom and blame everything on her.

lol Scott!

ah! the almonds! I keep a stash in my desk at work. They always hit the spot.

And as for diet, women and cottage cheese...it’s a conspiracy wink

I’ll defend the cottage cheese - I actually like it smile

And I picked up some of them there Wassa Crackers at the store tonight after seeing them in the thread - hey those are pretty good (and big - one is plenty)!

I’m afraid to eat almonds after looking at the fat content. Maybe someone can explain it to me why almonds are good, but after looking at them from the weight watcher point way, they seem like too much for me.

Hi kershtine! Nice to ‘meet’ you smile

We forgot THE APPLE! Of course! And when I feel that I need a bit more to hold me over I use a little peanut butter on my granny smith apple.

For lo-cal snacks, I like olives or dill pickles mixed with carrots or celery.  The pickles are high in sodium, but are particularly good if you are an athlete in the summer months as they help to replenish some of what you lose in your workouts.  Carrots and celery get a bit dull, but there a hundreds of flavors of olives and dill pickles.

also, here in Pennsylvania-Dutch country, there is a particularly good lo-cal food called Chow-Chow...it is really just carrots, onions, celery, cauliflower that has been cut up and pickled....again, high in sodium but ok in moderation and replenishes some of what you lost during workouts.

Skyler - Almonds are high in fat, but it is a healthy fat, and we do need some fat in our diet. Plus, eating a little bit of fat can help you feel full longer. 10 almonds have 70 calories - not too much total.

Scott - I happen to like cottage cheese. Even the non-fat variety feels like actual food (its heavy) and it isn’t as tart as plain yogurt. I usually mix it with berries or melon to give it a little more jazz and to get in one of my fruit servings for the day.

Another good snack: a cup of vegetable soup. Campbells makes those “Soup at Hands” and some are low in fat. I’ve also bought little 1 cup storage containers and split a regular can of soup between them. Add in a 3 oz can of tuna and you have protein and a daily veg.
