Hi everyone,
It’s Tom from Carlsbad.

I started my new ‘image’ on January 10th.  My wieght was 205 lbs.

A little history. I used to walk/ run with my dog, and when he went to doggie heaven, my ‘motivation to move’ was lost. In addition to a lot of stress at work, I have not reguarlly exercised for the last three years, addding 30 lbs.

So I joined a gym (LA Fitness) and have been working out 6 days a week.  My routine is:
Monday-20-25minutes wieghts - 30 minutes on elyptical.
Tuesday - 30 minutes elyptical
Wednesday-20-25minutes wieghts - 30 minutes on elyptical.
Thursday - 30 minutes elyptical
Friday-20-25minutes wieghts - 30 minutes on elyptical.
Saturday- 30 minutes elyptical
Sunday Off.

I’ve reduced my calorie intake to 1800-2000 per day.

My goal is to get to 165 and 13-15% body wieght.

I am always looking for advise, good diet tips and MOTIVATION TO MOVE.

Thanks to Scott for the great podcasts.  Looking forward to each one!

All the best!

It’s important to know that at the end of the day it’s not the medals you remember.  What you remember is the process-- what you learn about yourself by challenging yourself, the experiences you share with other people, the honesty the training demands—those are things nobody can take away from you whether you finish last or you’re an Olympic Champion.

Hi Tom,

Welcome to the MTM family. Tell me about your dog. Sounds like he/she was a good friend. Any plans to replace your lost pup with someone new? They’re never the same, but they all give unconditional love, something we all can’t get enough of. We’ve had a variety of dogs over the years. right now a Bassett Hound named Maggie and our third Shar-Pei named Emi. Sometimes losing our pets when they cross over the rainbow bridge is most difficult.

Congrats on getting moving again. I know you will accomplish your goals. As Scott says, “Put one foot in front of the other, then repeat!”

Keep it up.

Bill

Hi Bill, (and everyone at the MTV family)
Nicolette, or ‘Nikki’ as we called her, was Alaskan huskie, Labrador mix, all white dog.  She had no sense of direction and did not want to be in our backyard for very long.  Any opportunity she got she would wander off, and thankfully, neighbor’s always called (large colorful tag) and we would go pick her up. This wandering spirit helped me as I exercised, and as soon as she would see me getting on my shoes for a run, she would prance and ‘talk’, anxious to go. It always confused her when I put on my ‘retired’ running shoes on to go do yard-work, and we did not go anywhere.

She was a great companion, and like my family, gave me that unconditional love you spoke about.  I remember once training for a 5 k, I took her on the beach for a run.  As usual, she would pull me the first 3/4 mile or so, and then we would run side by side for about 2 miles, then I would ‘drag’ her behind me. Well, this particular run was a little longer than we normally did, and by the time we got back to the car, she was limping (I felt so horrible!).  When I got home, my wife said ‘you broke Nikki!!’.  Thankfully, she let me soak her paws and was better in a few days.

Update:
This last Monday our company went through another series of layoffs.  This time I was caught in the process. I have never been without a job my entire life, and immediately started looking for what else is available. I have an interview next week, and inside I know everything will work out okay.  Amazing was life throws at you, but I’m faithful that God has a master plan in my life.

All for now, time to go work out!!

All the best,
Tom

Another amazing motivated person! This is such a great place.
Welcome to the board Tom it’s great to hear about your husky - my entire family are dog maniacs. I can relate.
Best of luck on the job search, stay motivated and someone will notice the light inside you. According to our HR department it’s all about the numbers - landing a job that is - so the more you put yourself out there, the closer you’ll get to finding your next path. It will be obvious when you find it. I believe things happen for a reason, and there’s something wonderful waiting for you.

Good Spirit to You!
