It’s important to know that at the end of the day it’s not the medals you remember.  What you remember is the process-- what you learn about yourself by challenging yourself, the experiences you share with other people, the honesty the training demands—those are things nobody can take away from you whether you finish last or you’re an Olympic Champion.

I like my water, just like my soda, VERY, VERY cold.  Recently, I started using the organic lemon juice from WHOLE FOODS, which is very tasty splashed in my water.  I just don’t always have the time and a knife handy to cut open a lemon every time I’m thirsty.  tongue laugh

I’m a big fan of diet pepsi, but I’m slowly weaning myself off of it.

Also filled with artificial sweetners, but a great way to fill a fix for some sugary treat, is those crystal light (or the WALMART knock-off) individual flavor packets.  It’s supposed to go in a 16 oz water bottle, but that’s WAY too sweet for me!  I usually put it in a 24 or 36 oz container of… you guessed it… VERY COLD water.  Yummy.

I’m also a fan of those fruity, herbal teas.  WEGMANS, and other stores, have samples of their teas out frequently, and this has gotten me into some trouble in the past.  I have WAY too many teas in my pantry… hee-hee.

My boyfriend Jerry has to stay away from caffine, but loves the cherry flavored diet coke.  This gave me an idea, and so I went online and found sugar free syrups.  Cherry for him, chocolate for me.  As a treat, we’ll have a cherry or chocolate caffiene free diet coke with dinner.  It’s delightful.

I’m sure you can use those syrups with spritzer waters, club soda, or whatever, to make a flavor treat.  The syrups are sold with sugar, with aspratane, or with splenda.  You just have to shop around - but they have practically any flavor you can name in a sugar-free variety.

The biggest trick of all comes to me via COSTCO.  I like to buy the 24 oz. sportz bottles of water that Deer Park puts out, but I’d rather not pay $1.50/bottle at the local 7-11.  So I pick up a few cases and leave them in spots that I frequent.  One for work, one for home, and sometimes, one in the car.  It’s easy to reach into the backseat, or trunk, and grab some refreshment.  Half the time, as Carlyn stated, when you think you’re hungry, you’re actually thirsty.

Have a great day, everyone!

Cheers,
~ Josette ~

For me its all about the water and coffee. I have at least 8 cups a day—usually over 10, and will drink 3-4 cups of coffee with splenda and 1/4 cup of milk. Every so often I crave a soda for the carbonation, but that only happens once a month or so. I also like sweet tea, sweetened with splenda. I will have one of those every few weeks.  And of course a small glass of either Lambrusco or White Zinfandel at night is a lovely treat.

I drink water, straight up, most of the day. No ice, no flavoring, nothing but pure, filtered water from my fridge.

I am starting to drink Lipton white tea http://www.liptonpyramidteas.com/home.asp

I have heard white tea has the most antioxidants of any tea and that you have to drink 4-5 cups to get a good amount, so I am working up to that. I am drinking it hot now, but I will drink it iced when the hot weather gets here in another couple months. It is really tasty on its own and I only use a little bit of Splenda to flavor it, but I think I could probably forgo that.

Hi Allison,

What brand of white tea do you use?  The only white tea I’ve tried to date tasted like, well, water.  This is a shame, because I’m a huge tea fan, especially green tea, and I’d love to start drinking white tea as well.

So… inquiring minds want to know.  *grin*

Cheers,
Julie

Hey Julie,

I have been drinking Lipton white tea. It has island mango and peach flavors in it. It is one of the best teas I’ve ever had!

Well, I’ll start by listing what I used to drink (blah!):

- skim milk (never did like the taste / texture of whole milk)
- sodas (sometimes diet, but usually the syrupy junk)
- coffee (actually more like cream and sugar with a dash of coffee!)
- tea (again with cream and sugar)
- wine coolers and various sugary alcoholic drinks every now and then

So now I am drinking:

- low-calorie, skim soy milk (it’s actually got a wonderful taste, and the chocolate one is great)
- 5-calorie lemonade every now and then
- tea (no cream, a couple of Splendas)
- Crystal Light
- a single glass of red wine maybe once a month or so
- tons and tons of water.. it’s so great for keeping me full, hydrated and refreshed!

By the way, thanks for the tip about that tea, Allison. It sounds delicious- I’m definitely giving it a try, too. I’ve never had white tea before… hmmm.

I try to drink as much water as possible throughout the day.  I used to be a big soda fan and I can say that I am almost totally done with soda.  Today I had a regular Coke and it gave me a terrible headache, not good.  I enjoy green tea, Celestial Seasonings brand, and many of their other flavored teas.  I put in a little bit of honey to help sweeten it up.  Some mornings I have a cup of coffee to go in my favorite thermal mug, but I don’t do that every day.  Alcohol in low moderation is the way to go for me, I hate hangovers so I usually only let myself have a very small amount of alcohol.  Wine is my favorite and is a nice treat from time to time in the evening.  Also enjoy a nice beer as well.  I usually wait for the weekends to have a small drink of alcohol.  Oh I also just got into Pomegranite juice, very tasty!!

Hmm, I’ve never tried pomegranate juice, but I keep hearing great things about it. Maybe I will give it a try soon!

Pomegranite juice is great. I get the kind mixed with blueberries. Takes some of the tartness away. Yum.

Mmm, blueberry sounds so tasty. I looked for the POM juices at Wal-Mart tonight, but I couldn’t find them. I wonder if they are only at certain grocery stores.. I’m sure Publix should have them, and definitely Wild Oats.
