I was just curious - what do you drink throughout your day?

I’ve always had such a struggle between “tasty” and “healthy”, so a while back I just settled on water. And it seems that I’ve out of the norm, because now all I drink is water! Every since I started being conscious of how many calories were in every drink, I’ve become a water addict. I even think it tastes good! (is that possible??) I feel like there are so many benefits to me!

1) I drink a glass before a meal AND one during the meal, and I end up eating much less.
2) When I’m “hungry” I just drink some water first; it turns out most of the time I’m not even hungry, I’m just mis-reading the feeling of “thirst”
3) I would much rather EAT my calories than DRINK them!! wink
4) It keeps my skin oh-so-hydrated

Has anyone else gone down this path? or did have you found something else that is a good substitute for sugary sodas and teas?

Before I started this journey, I didn’t drink anything! No coffee, juice, pop, water, nothing. Now, I drink water just about exclusively as well. It’s still a bit of a struggle to get my 8 glasses, but I manage to get most of it most of the time. Every once in a while, if I’m craving something, I’ll splurge on a diet pop. But not very often. I bought a 12 pack in April, and I still have some left!

Mostly water and diet soda.  I drink 3-4 litres of water a day, and maybe 5-6 diet sodas (I need the caffeine!) Most of my diet sodas happen during meals (I eat 5-6 times a day) because I can’t quite stomach water and food at the same time.  It makes my stomach hurt, but I’m not sure why.

Ahhhh.....I gotta have that mornin’ and evenin’ cup of coffee. It’s my treat wink

I used to drink pop but not anymore because it tastes like cough syrup to me now. Once in a awhile I’ll throw a 50 to a 100 calorie smoothie in the mixer. Depends on the kind of fruit I use and how much.

Good question!

I am a big water drinker.  I keep a pitcher on my desk at work and a Brita pitcher in my fridge at home.  I like the taste of water usually, but some water is flat or funny tasting.  I really prefer my Brita water to what you get in a bottle, so I’m really bummed that we can’t take our own water on planes.

I don’t like the taste of nutrisweet, so diet soda was never an option for me.  About eight years ago I just made the decision to quit drinking soda (as much) and switch to water at restaurants.  Or unsweetened iced tea.  Occasionally I’ll have a soda, usually about once a month.

And I do drink some tea and coffee during the day for a little caffeine kick, and sometimes herbal tea when I don’t want the extra caffeine.

Just to be different...I can’t stand the taste of water..never have liked it, but I have come up with a few tricks to get my eight glasses of water in.

I keep lemon juice in my fridge.  A little bit on my water bottle makes it more like lemonade..Very tasty.  The only problem is now boyfriend has figured out my water always tastes better than his and he keeps drinking all my water.

Lipton Green tea flavoring.  Like the crystal light single serving ones, but they taste way better.  I can usually water them down so they last for a while.

I have the odd diet pop when I go out, but I really don’t like carbonated drinks so I don’t drink much of that.

Talking Rain Juice, no calories, no carbonation, and come in yummy flavors like Kiwi and Passion fruit.

And of course Coffee and Tea for the caffine fix!

oh I second the Talking rain stuff.  I love the kiwi flavor.  Another thing I’ll do, especially if I’m outside alot, is zipfizz in my water.  One tube in a litre, and it has enough caffeine and vitamins to almost skip my daily vitamin.

I LOVE WATER!… Ever since my Kidney stone experience, that the doctor said was due to Soda Pop, cured me of my Pop habit.

When I sit down to a restaurant.  I love to look around and see how many others choose water.  It is amazing how much money restaurants and fast food places make off of SODA POP.  Costs them less than a dime for that soda.

I also enjoy Propel Lemon if I need a change.  They make convienent little to-go packets now, that you just drop in you 16.9 oz water bottle for a lot more reasonable price.

In the evenings I usually make me a cup of herbal tea.  This serves several purposes; Keeps me from snacking, hydrates me, makes me feel special, relaxes me and keeps me hydrated.

Another great way to make water feel special is make “SPA Water” add a slice of cucumber and a slice of lemon Looks Fancy and tastes good too!

I drink lots of water and about 2 cups of green tea a day. I feel good and fresh when I drink water.

A tip for flat water is to shake the bottle to get the air moving around in the water. It helps.

I drink LOADS of filtered water & a couple of cups of decaf tea.

If I really want something fizzy, then I pour about 3 oz. orange or diet cranberry juice over ice & top off with soda water (aka club soda). really nice on a hot day.  cool smile

I got off the diet drinks - too many chemicals. I even question some of the sport drinks.

Now I drink almost plain water - filtered water with fresh lemon, lime, orange or a splash of low carb cranberry juice. When I moved from Vermont to Florida, I couldn’t quite handle the local water - even filtered - so I needed to add something to mask the sulfur taste. Now that I’m living in California, I still add the flavor just because I like it and drink more if I do. I still have my AM coffee (concession to my caffeine addiction), but none after noon - even if I need to work late. I travel for work so noon is +- about 4 hours, but then I learned to live on local time - get up with the sun, sleep when it’s dark.

Travel can be really dehydrating so I’m really focusing on drinking more water in any form before during and after my trips.

Green tea is great - especially hot from the thermos with lunch kayaking. It’s good for prevention of hypothermia - very important if you are in a moderately cold, wet environment, and good for re-hydrating. It’s amazing that you can still dehydrate out in the ocean with all that water around.

I found that if you start out the morning with a glass of lukewarm or room temperature water (depending on the season), you’ll crave water the rest of the day. I tried it with my two daughters when they were younger, and it happened with them too! You have to drink as much as you can tolerate. If it’s only a sip that day, that’s okay. After a few days, you’ll get the hang of it and drink about 16 ounces before you know it!

And drinking with a meal isn’t that great for you. It dilutes the stomach acid, which it possibly why it hurts some people’s stomachs to drink while eating.

I have to admit, though - I am addicted to having at least one big mug of coffee or tea (complete with creamer and natural sugar) when I work throughout the week. I guess it’s just a bad habit...but I’m lost without it!

I drink water, milk, and pop (though I don’t have pop every day).  I don’t like coffee or tea, never have.  I don’t like herbal tea, although I love the way it smells.  I’ll occassionally hot cocoa but not often because it just seems rather sweet sometimes.  I used to drink diet soda years back, but then I didn’t drink any soda for a few months and after that the artificial sweeteners make my stomach feel squirrely.

I was in Wales several years ago and picked up the habit of lemon in my water.  When I eat out at sit-down restaurants I almost always have water with lemon, especially after a friend was chatting with me about how much money her family saves because everyone gets water when they dine out (2 adults & 3 kids can mean a savings of $10 easily).

There is now dried lemon in a shaker (in the spice aisle of the grocery store).  I really like it because I never got just the right amount of lemon when using liquid juice.  Now, I put the ice in, shake on some lemon and then add water.  It’s great!

Oh, sometimes when I eat at Chik-Fil-A, I’ll have their lemonade.  They make a very tart lemonade, which is just how I like it.  Now, I have had their diet lemonade and it was just as good.  I’ve been thinking of trying splenda to see if it bothers me the way aspartame does.

I find I drink more water if I use a straw.  I think it’s because more goes straight back to my throat and so it takes more to actually “wet” my mouth.  I like room temperature water just fine, whcih really helps because I have several water bottles (rubbermaid variety so it’s easily reclosable, which is important w/ 4 cats in the house) around the house, in my car so I always have water available when I want it.

Deep breath in: One 32 oz bottle of water during my morning training (about 16 of those make up my pre- and post-workout protein shakes), another 32 ouncer on the way to work, a cup of coffee (Americano) at work, 32 oz bottle of Clear carbonated Strawberry water midmorning, diet pepsi with lunch, 32 oz bottle of water in the afternoon, diet mountain dew on the way home, and once in a great while a Michelob Ultra in the evening.

I drink 99.95% water only when I eat out (but now I take the water instead of the cheap soft drink (but sometime not so cheap got charged 3$ for a canned coke (and I wanted a pepsi) they should at least put it in a beautiful glass so you wouldn’t feel so riped off) and sometime at restaurants I take a tea. In the winter time I drink more tea for the heat effect but its still like 2 cups of tea for 4l of water.
