Not to the World of diet and exercise though.
I’m the kid that while growing up got teased CONSTANTLY about my weight. And oddly enough no matter what I did, that weight just wouldn’t go away while I was growing up (even though I played soccer every season during elementary and middle school).
Then that kid grew up a lil and turned into the girl that wanted to join the military BUT had to loose 50-60lbs first.
So I did. It was hard. VERY hard. But at the time I worked nights and had all day to do whatever I needed to do for me. And thats exactly what I did. I dedicated 7mths to loosing those 50lbs. And I did it.
Then I joined the Coast Guard. And kept the weight off for about 1 mth after I graduated Basic Training.
Over the first year of my enlistment I slowly started to gain weight. I went from 163lbs up to 184lbs in a year. I wasn’t happy with myself by any means. I do account alot of that weight gain to the stress of the job, lack of healthy food options (due to my living in a room with no cooking facilities and only having the option to eat whatever the cook in our galley had made for the day), and also the simple fact that I was just always COMPLETELY exhausted all the time. So I didn’t eat very well and I hardly to never ever exercised.
Then, weighing 184lbs I moved to Hawaii. In THREE MONTHS, I gained an additional 28lbs!!!
I was so shocked. I’ve been tested for hypothyroidism and have discovered that I am developing the “condition”. Although, I am still in the norm, on the high side, but still the norm.
Sadly, the result is lower metabolism among several other side effects.
Because I’m in the military it is important that I maintain a healthy weight. So, I am back to square one. I need to loose 50-60lbs, but this time FOR GOOD.
I stumbled across MTM while browsing through podcasts on I-Tunes. And BoY am I glad I did. This is such a great podcast. I love listening to it in my car. Its way more beneficial than just listening to the lastest pop songs.
So, thats my story. And this is my introduction. I look forward to reading and networking with everyone on here. Of course, more then anything I look forward to getting healthy. Thanx Scott for your wonderful podcast. You’re awesome!
