Hi, everyone! I live in Nashville and just found MTM on iTunes a few weeks ago. I had been searching high and low for a podcast that would motivate me to continue my workout regimen and diet and MTM is exactly what I needed!
Here’s my story: I have been heavy since I was a child. As I’m sure many of you understand, when those pounds have been there so long, they really don’t want to leave! Despite that, I lost 30 pounds in 8 months in 2005 using the South Beach Diet. I was so excited! At 170 pounds, I was the thinnest I had ever been! But, I still needed to lose 20 pounds, so I kept trying. I started working out 3 times a week and the pounds stayed.
I started counting calories and started a Cardio Boot Camp 4 times a week, and still the pounds stayed (along with the high body fat percentage).
I added strength training with a personal trainer, kept a food diary, ate fruit, vegetables, whole grains, and lean meats, cutting out sugar, processed foods, and dairy (because I’m lactose-intolerant) and they pounds stayed on.
I added yoga and pilates and the pounds stayed. My trainer, who saw my food diary and sees me every day at the gym, had no idea what was going on, and why I wasn’t progressing. I went to the doctor and there weren’t any medical problems.
Over the past 7 months, though I’ve noticed improvement in muscle tone and agility, my body fat hasn’t dropped more than 1 % and I haven’t lost a pound. In fact, my wedding dress became too tight (even though it fit when I bought it, and must fit again for my wedding in 6 weeks)!!!
As you can guess, this plateau has been one of the most discouraging and emotionally draining trials of my life. And I can tell you, weight loss and road to health are truly long and arduous journeys.
Then I found MTM’s podcasts. These podcasts have been exactly the motivation I needed to kick myself in the butt, feel better about my progress, and finish what I started in 2005! I decided to go back to Phase 1 of the South Beach Diet until my wedding, and I’ve already dropped 6 of those plateau pounds! I know I can keep going, and I’ve really loved the constant uplifting motivation that Scott brings.
Sorry this post has been so long, you guys. I can’t wait to see what great insight is on the forum. Good luck to everybody on here-- it will be so nice to meet you!
~Papillon
