Hi, I’m a 29 yr old male who is getting his body weight down to something reasonable.  I’ve been working on losing weight on and off for about a year and a half now.  I started at 190 lbs (I’m 5’7") when i first decided I need to lose weight.  I dietted for about 6 months and was able to get down to 170 lbs before I stopped the diet I was on.  Then in the next months, I regained 10 pounds of it back.  So yeah, I was starting to yoyo diet.

Then, just a month and a half ago, I started to get serious again.  I took a different attitude this time.  It’s not a diet, it’s a lifestyle change.  That has helped me so much to get my weight loss back on track.

I’m currently down to 166lbs, and my long term goal is 150.  I’ve done it almost entirely (right now) with just eating healthy.  I eat 5 small meals a day and try to balance my macronutrients, though I’m always off on that.  Usually more carbs and less fat than I’m shooting for, but I don’t beat myself up over that.  I track EVERYTHING I eat, except one day of the week, which I allow myself to eat whatever I want (within moderation!)

I’m now starting to add weight training and more cardio.  I’m also taking an acrobatics / new circus (think Cirque Du Solei) class.

Oh cool!  A sort of distant friend of mine does trapeze and cane balancing and I forget what else in New York.  I was just looking at video of it the other day; that’s such cool stuff.  I’m jealous.  smile

Welcome!

Hi Russell,

I’m right there with you on the “lifestyle change” mentality, instead of calling it a “diet.” Congratulations on all your progress so far!

And, by the way, I agree with Summer—circus classes are way cool!  I did something similar when I was a kid at day camp, and it was great.  I’m sure you’re going to love it.

Cheers,
Julie

Thanks for the words of encouragement!  I took my first circus class last wednesday, and I just have to say, it was quite amazing and fun.  The soreness I felt the next two days definitely let me know I pushed my body outside of it’s comfort zone!
