I did the spinning class yesterday, and could barely move all day - so I took this morning off from working out. Was that okay? I am still in a lot of pain and Julie recommended I didn’t overdo it and hurt myself (which I have done before).

I plan to take the dogs for a walk or something this evening, so I get some movement today, but the plan is to go back to the ellyptical on Thursday morning (my regular routine before I tried spinning), then try spinning again on Friday (easier class). Then take the beginning spinning class on Monday. Try to get a few walks in over the weekend.

So the goal is to keep moving, but build up gradually to more exercise, rather than blow it out.

Am I doing this right? Or should I suck it up and do more?

Hey Leigh -

Spinning will do that to you until you get used to it.

Taking a day off is a good idea - but I bet you’re MORE sore tomorrow.  It’s called DOS - Delayed Onset Soreness and it comes around 24- 48 hours after your workout.  It’s the buildup of Lactic Acid in your system that causes it.

The best way to get through the soreness is to jump right back into the class.  As long as nothng is “hurt” you’ll be fine.  Doing that will break things up, flush out the soreness and make you feel better.

Enjoy today off - then get back on the bike.  You might even try a walk or some stretching today to work things out.
