Day 1 for me. Hi
I am beginning the 100 Days of Exercise Challenge today.

Exercise goal: Repeating the Start Moving and Stay Moving program. Listen and do the homework parts of the program. Today I calculated my calroie intake for the 12 hr eating program and follow through to sync my ipod each night so I’m ready to go. Just getting set to go makes all the difference.

Day 1 is today.  I want to use the gym 3 days a week.  2 days for home video, outside walking and then Wii Fit.  I do the Yoga program which is fun. winter is definately a challenge this year with the snow and cold.  I have some back up exercise planned.

Goal: My goal is simple, I’m going to try new exercise classes at the gym.  I realize this my fear, starting a new class scares me. i don’t know whey but I need to overcome. I just get scared and think I’m limiting myself.  I like to try spinning and Zumba but I can intimidated by the class.

Today’s actvity: gym today 40 mins treadmilll, 10 mins stairmaster 30 mins weights machines.  It felt good to sweat. The gym was really crowded.  When I was going in December there was hardly anyone.  Now you can barely find a parking space.

I will eat sensibly and drink more water.

FitLiz.  My goal is to lose 25 pounds without dieting just eating smart.

Welcome to the challenge Liz!  I too am trying to lose weight without “dieting.” I look forward to hearing about your progress.

Liz, welcome to the challenge. I am evidence that you can lose weight without “dieting.” And if you have access to a ZUMBA class, go for it. I did one while visiting at my sister’s and it was a lot of fun.

My Exercise Log for Thirsday:

I completed my 30 mins of cardio.
then did my 15 mins of stretch and yoga.

Had a busy day.

I will try the Zumba I think it will be a fun workout. The gym has a lot of class time so it should be easy to try it.

For Friday I will do 3 miles walk with Leslie Sandson since we have a rather ugly day with sleet. She is my back up on winter days.

Welcome to the challenge!  I feel a little the same way as you.  It gives me anxiety to walk into something new like a new workout class.  But, one of New Years gifts I am giving myself is to just do it anyway.  As soon as you do it once..... you’re good!  Keep it up!

Tuesday: walked my daughter to bus stop with the dog.  We went for short am walk. Then later I went to the Y.  Treadmill for 30 mins. Weights machines for 20 mins.  I make apppointment with trainer for Wed. to go over more weight machines.

Wed: Walked my daughter to school bus.  It was chilly. I have my training session today @ 12:30. My 2nd Y fit class.  I have another class on Friday.

yeah!
I got my training class done.  It was so simple but now I have no excuse.
I also did treadmill for 30 mins. plus 1/2 hour with the trainer. I’m glad that I did it.
Limiting my tv and computer a little helps too.

I know that having a trainer show me the ropes to start off with made a huge difference in my level of comfort in the gym. It’s been 2 years now and I won’t give him up. At first I saw him once a week while he taught me the exercises I should be doing - then I switched to a bi-weekly schedule to make it a bit more affordable. I did the rest of my workouts on my own… (I don’t need someone to count all my reps for me!) I took a bit of a break from him in in Nov- Dec, and I certainly know enough now to make up my own programs on the fly. But I still appreciate having someone remind me of proper form and he is good to bounce ideas off of as I work through various body issues/injuries.

One word of advice - make sure you get one who is actually knowledgeable, qualified and truly invested in YOU. I’ve seen a few trainers at my gym I know I certainly wouldn’t want training me. (I saw one last week who was overweight himself asking a girl who was obviously new to working out to do one legged lunges with the back foot looped in a TRX contraption!! That got to be an advanced exercise.)

You’re on the right track - keep it up!!

I’m listening to the seminar this is great.
The trainer was able to tell me that my form was good.  When i told him I do 45 mins of cardio 3/4 day a week he was impressed.  By adding the weights I feel that I have more control.  I find though that I need to weights every other day.
The other thing that helps is to have a good Friday workout.  This helps with weekend.  Yoga I do using Wii Fit it is fun and I get a decent stretch in too.

I’m very glad that you’re getting a decent stretch in. I learned the hard way how important it is to stretch--and I’m still dealing with the consequences of not stretching. The hard part was that I didn’t realize I was causing a problem until it was too late. I hope you’re stretching every time you exercise. . . .

You are on the right track.

I workout with a trainer and we have THE RULE - I Listen to my body, my trainer Listens to me.

Stretching is also very important.  I stretch daily, with or without workouts.  I do yoga once a week (would add a secone session except that I live in Rural Eastern Shore Maryland and classes aren’t that easy to find) OK, that was an excuse, I can get a DVD and do yoga every day.

Anyway, do what works and be consistant.  That’s really all it takes.

Help.. Ok....here’s my frustration for today and next week’s focus.  Now that I’m working out regularly the my arms and legs are really getting shapely again. I fit nicely into my old jeans although I’d like a smaller size but for now this will do. However, my problem zone is my belly.  What can I do to get that area to reduce? Perhaps a new technique is the way to fix this.

I finished Day 5 of SMSM I am combining with 100 day challenge that gives me 30 days of accountablilty.
45 mins treadmill. 20 mins of weights. After that I followed the advise from last night and worked 1 are a my abs. I already did a completed body workout on Wednesday.  Before bed I will do yoga to stretch out before guided motivation

I have an appt with dr on Tuesday hopefully I will have a good report.  Because I’m type 2 diabetes I’m trying to not need medication. I have to prove to the dr that I will manage things responsibly exercise it key to that goal.

Day 8
I went to the gym today. Completed my SMSM day 8 of the challenge, resistance ,had a sensible lunch.  I am really starting to see huge improvements in my flexibility and strength.  I sleep better and and ready to rise in the am.  I’m making a monthly focus.  February’s focus is to drink more water.

Drinking more water is a great focus to have. More people should take that one on. . .

Everything I’ve ever heard is that you can’t spot reduce. However, your abdomen muscles can get firmer and your belly will shrink as you have less fat.

It’s great that you’re combining the SMSM and the 100 Day Challenge. They work well together.

Congratulations on having fun!  I have found that is so much easier if you do something you enjoy.  There are so many different ways to stay active.  I don’t think you can spot reduce the belly.....  It will just come off as the weight does.  Ab work will definitely pull them in though!  Keep up the water!  I take a reusable water bottle everywhere!

Yes, congrats on having fun.  I’m all for having fun myself!  I really enjoyed the aquarobics class I took last night and will go back tonight as well.  I swam a lot as a young girl.

I was (and many times continue to be) one of the worst about consuming water.  When I am working out regularly, I am much better about drinking water.  Drinking more water is definitely on my list as part of my fitness quest!
