I did a stupid thing and managed to drop 4 bits of ikea’s finest wood on my big toe.

I’ve not been able to do to the gym all week as it hurts so much.  Luckily my toe isn’t broken, but the nurse said she was pretty sure that my toe nail would drop off.

Anyone else had this happen, is it going to be sore without it?

OUCH!!

I ripped a toe nail pretty far down the nail bed a few years ago.  It was quite tender.  I got a silicon toe cap to protect it even in my shoes.  I wore it for a good month at least.  It was ok to wear all day , but I let it “air” at night with just a band aid on to keep the nail from ripping further until it grew out.

Hope it doesn’t bother you for too long.  Get creative in finding ways to get moving for now.  Upper body is still workable.  Good luck

Many many Moons ago when I was a young man...I dropped a 100 pound loading ramp on my big toe (the only day I forgot my steel toe boots and wore sneakers!). It swelled up a bunch and in time the swelling under the nail made it “puff-up”. The nail was about 3/8” higher than usual and it hurt a ton. Being a broke college student I didn’t have proper medical coverage or the money for a doctor. Finally in a fit of frustration over the pain, not being able to put on a shoe, and missing work...I took matters into my own hands. I sterilized an exacto blade and gently cut the skin next to the nail until the nail came off. Did it hurt? You bet! I kept it clean and bandaged, and in 3 days it was dry and pain free.

Don’t be like me, follow up with your doctor.

Once it’s off it will feel like normal, except for the fact there’s no nail. It took nearly a year for my whole nail to grow back. And when it did, it was more curved and less flat than the original. Never had a problem with mine since mine came off.

Bottom line: once the nail is gone you’ll be much much better.

I was out at the gym a few weeks ago and came home and removed my sock to notice the nail on my left big toe was completely black!  It scared the heck out of me.  I have a lack of sensation in my feet because of a neurological birth defect.  The good news is that it is not too sore, but the bad news is that it could be worse than I think.

I went to the walk in clinic recently and the doctor gave me antibiotics and some creme.  I just lost the nail and it is not as sore this morning.  However, I keep on working out at the gym.
