It’s important to know that at the end of the day it’s not the medals you remember. What you remember is the process-- what you learn about yourself by challenging yourself, the experiences you share with other people, the honesty the training demands—those are things nobody can take away from you whether you finish last or you’re an Olympic Champion.

Tom:
If you check out nothing else, I think Garbage’s “Push It” is one of the greatest work-out songs of all time!
Also, the full “playlist” of my first 100 days is the final post on that thread…

Great song. Almost anything R.E.M. is fantastic.
COngratulations on your commitment.
WOw --- I am dying to get into running. The last 2 times I tried I had terrible shin and ankle soarness. I am starting my workouts again, so perhaps I can add some running soon.
How long have you been a runner?

I didn’t consider myself a runner even when I subscribed to Runner’s World magazine and trained for a half-marathon.
I suppose my mental image of a runner is someone with less body fat and better muscle definition than I’ve ever achieved.
I’ll let you know when that day comes. It will.

Tim, I have to say, I beg to differ! A jogger is someone who bounces in place. You are a runner, more importantly, you are an athlete . And I double-dog-dare you to say it out loud: My name is Tim, and I’m an athlete . I am in fact, a runner. It isn’t about pride or humility, it’s just a statement of fact. Try it on, it might change your life.
