Hi all, after a little break in exercise I have secided to start a new challenge.

This will take me through to the end of the Summer and I would like to get fit and lose weight. More importantly, regular exercise should help me with the energy I need for a busy life. I have 2 small boys and I know I can do a lot more with them when I am fit and healthy.

Day 1 -

20 minute walk at lunchtime
20 minutes on the treadmill
40 minutes on the eliptical

Back in the gym and it wasn’t too bad. I watched some football on the screens and the time went by easier.

I aim to get to the gym a few times a week and get outside as much as possible.

Great start! Have fun watching the TV too. They always show news or Save by the Bell when I’m at the gym.

Thanks a million everyone! It is great to get encouragement.

I have had a busy few days and managed to -

Day 2 1 hour walk
Day 3 1 hour walk
Day 4 - looking after my 2 small boys so anything but a rest day!
Day 5 1 hour walk and 90 minutes of gardening

I have managed to do a lot more this week so progress has been made. I want to fit in a few gym session this week as well and maybe a bike ride.

We have a toddler and a 3 month old (both boys) at home so exercise has to fit around looking them. It has been a challenge with a baby in the house but thankfully he is now sleeping through the night. Hurrah! That is a big relief all round.

Hey Kevin! Do you have a HR monitor? It would be interesting to see what the calorie burned number would be for a day of little boy chasing!

THank you Shawn and Bree. I think the HR monitor is a good idea. Judging on how exhausted yuo feel at the end of the day it beats a gym session. I’ll keep you posted.

THis week so far involved

Day 6 20 minute walk
Day 7 20 minute walk / 1 hour LSB in the gym
Day 8 visit to the doctor so no exercise
Day 9 30 minutes in the gym

I kept moving this week despite carryign a virus, It is clearing now.

I took a break from working out recently to deal with family and work. It has been a very interesting experience. It is only by stopping that I fully understood the value of exercise. It really does effect the quality of my life in a very positive way. Fort the last month I haven’t been myself and it has got to be the lack of workouts. I now feel motivated to get back into it!

Thanks again Shawn,Emmi and Bree. It is great to get feedback. Have a good week!

Day 10 - 30 minute walk
Day 11 - 1 hour walk
DAy 12 - 1 hour walk
Day 13 - 1 hour walk

It was a busy weekend but I managed to get in some long walks. My route involved hills and a double buggy so I do get out of breath!

The next challenge is to free up time to get back to the gym. Also, I may get in a game of 5 a side football in every week.

I am on holidays from tomorrow for a week. We are off to Barcelona for a family wedding - my wifes sister. It should be fun and I am planning to get a bit of exercise aswell - hopefully swimming and walking at least. I will post when I can

Lisa, Bree and Emmi, thanks for the encouragement!

Well the wedding went very well. My sister in law had a great ceremony and reception. We had 2 small children with us so it was hard work. I have a new respect for stay at home parents. I wasn’t idle on the trip you will be glad to hear. THis is a summary

Holiday

Day 14 to 24

Of the eleven days I had 2 “rest” days. For the rest I walked on average 2 hours a day and managed 2 swims.

Day 25

Back to the gym

20 minutes on the treadmill
35 minutes on the bike
20 minutes with weights

i found my shinsplints playing up again so I may need to get myself new runners. Apart from that it went ok, it was very quiet in the gym.

I took a look at my goals for the year again and realised that very little progress has been made so far. The new baby in December was a big factor but I need to get going on getting fit and losing the spare tyre now.

Great job at keeping up with the exercise on your holiday and getting right back to the gym when you returned.

Have you set short term goals to help you take baby steps to your goal?
