Hi all,
My son and I were just having a discussion about finding a more positive way (for the purposes of affirmations and goal setting) to say “Losing Weight” or “Dropping 10lbs”.

Last time I worked with affirmations I used “I will loose 10kgs by blah, blah date” - I did - my dog (who happened to weigh 10kgs) died. So those of you into the law of attraction will see the ever so slight irony in that one.

(Like I always wonder how many times Scott said he wanted more Joy (Joi) in his life - he certainly got it didn’t he!)

“losing” dosn’t work for a couple of reasons:
it puts us into a win/lose state of functioning and our brain grabs onto losing “oh so your interesting in losing” & goes on its merry way showing you what a loser you are. Regardless of the name of the TV show I don’t believe our brain converts loser to winner that easily.

My intent is to get rid of (utilise) that 10 extra kilos of fat that I’ve stashed away for a rainy day.  But how to say it without sending my brain into the same mode that caused me to hold on to it in the first place?

So then I thought of “Becoming Leaner” - but lean still brings up images of starving Africans from childhood which again is going to throw my brain into hold onto those reserves mode.

So Please help me name my goal - any suggestions would be great! Wouldn’t it be excellent if we could come a with a new term that was life enhancing and effective.

Hi Pennyn,

How about just saying, “I will weigh [target weight] by [target date].” That way, you just focus on the goal.

Another way you might want to go about it is to focus on a goal that’s *not* weight loss.  I know it sounds counter-intuitive, but check out this thread to see what I mean.  Try to think beyond the “10 pounds” to the *real* reason you’re trying to lose weight: is it for health reasons?  To look great?  To feel fantastic?  It might surprise you that once you find the real reason you want to lose weight and focus on that, the weight loss will just happen alongside.

Cheers,
Julie
