Hi all, I’m Amanda. I’m a college senior from Ohio, but am currently spending the year studying Spanish in Spain. I just joined but have been listening to Scott’s podcasts for a few weeks. He is something else, isn’t he? His show is just the motivation I’ve been looking for. I’m really happy to be here! smile

Welcome to the forum Amanda.

Do you have any goals?

And is it a lot different in Spain than it would be in Ohio(food, culture, housing etc...)?

It is great to have you here Amanda.

Welcome, Amanda! What part of Ohio are you from? Must be so neat to spend a year studying abroad!

Hi Amanda! Welcome to MTM. How lucky you are to be in beautiful Spain. I know you’ll find all the motivation and support you need, right here! Where in Ohio are you from?

Thanks for the welcome, everyone!

Well, my ultimate goal is to weight between 125 and 130. To tell the truth, I’m not really sure how much I weigh at the moment because I haven’t weighed myself in months. I’ve considered getting a scale, but money is at a premium these days. I’m very eager to know, though, so I’m thinking about checking for a cheap one somewhere.

Anyway, I’m from northwest Ohio. I go to school at Bowling Green State University, and my hometown is about an hour south of there.

I’m very much enjoying Spain. The weather is so much milder here...it hasn’t snowed once yet, and still gets up into the high 60s during the day.
The diet here is quite different. They eat a very light breakfast here (fruit and milk or maybe a muffin) and then a huge midday meal around 2:30 or 3 p.m. One meal that we eat often at my host family’s home is white rice, beans and some sort of meat, followed by fruit...and always accompanied by bread. Then they eat a light dinner as well, around 9 or 9:30. Maybe a sandwich or some fruit. Also, I swear, they cook EVERYTHING here with olive oil.
Most people here are thin, I think because of all the walking they do. I always force myself to walk instead of taking the bus, and get around 2 to 3 hours of walking in daily. I’m going to have to really make myself walk when I go home in May!

Thanks again for making me feel welcome. =)

Hey there!  Where in Spain are ya?  I know that Barcelona and some of the countryside were inspirational places for me to get out and get fit when I visited.  I have a jog through the coastal town of Cadaques in Cataluna that I’ll never forget.  Though, it was quite hard not to over-induldge in tapas, paella and sangria. wink I’m jealous that you get to stay there so long - I love Spain and the Spanish - they really know how to live it up, yet as you said, somehow they stay so fit.

Welcome to the boards!
