I’ve just found Motivation to Move on iTunes and think this sounds like a great way to get started on a healthier life style.  I am a Weight Watcher member - about 60 lbs. overweight and have led a fairly sedentary life for the past few years.  I’m starting off this challenge by wallking and as time goes by and I get stronger, I will add different types of exercise to help me keep from getting bored and dropping out.

Hi Ginny,

Welcome to the 100 days!

That is exactly how i started.....slow at first...adding more days as i felt fitter......

the one thing to remember is that living healthier should not be temporary, but a way to view your entire lifetime.  this makes losing weight much easier....

Of course putting little goals out in front of you makes sense.....just so you have something to shoot for....but it’s in the journey that we are happiest, i believe.

Keep us posted on your progress.....

It’s important to know that at the end of the day it’s not the medals you remember.  What you remember is the process-- what you learn about yourself by challenging yourself, the experiences you share with other people, the honesty the training demands—those are things nobody can take away from you whether you finish last or you’re an Olympic Champion.

To tri is to risk failure, not to tri is to guarantee it!

Welcome, Ginny! Walking is a great way to start! It’s how I began, and still one of my favorite things to do!

Wow, MTM is really responsive!  Thank you both for your kind welcome.  I hope one day to be as athletic as the two of you and maybe even post a picture of me running.  I wanted to just check in and say I went for a 40 minute walk today.  I also had a totally on plan day with my Weight Watchers regime, even though I took a friend to a farewell lunch.  I planned in advance what I’d be eating for lunch - hearts of romaine lettuce, shrimp and dressing on the side with an iced tea.  I picked up a free three day pass to a ladies gym two weeks ago and today I went by to check it out.  I even had on my workout clothes when I arrived, just like Scott suggested, but I found out the gym is too far from my office for me to get in a workout before they close everyday and they don’t open until 9.  (Rather short hours for a gym, but I’ll keep looking until I come up with a plan, or I’ll just continue walking and use my company’s small gym.)

SUPERBOWL PARTY GAME PLAN.

I’ve been doing a little walking everyday, but I’ve been really bad about logging on and posting.  Yesterday I walked from my office to my hair appointment.  (It’s 2.73 miles and it sprinkled off and on while I was walking.) Since I’m new to walking that far, it took me 45 min. to go up and down the SF hills.  My beautician asked me if I was nuts.  I told her I loved it.  It felt so good to get out and move and listen to my music and not have anyone, no husband, kid, mother, father or boss asking me to do something for them instead of just doing something for myself.  It was just me and my music.  I’m going to walk close to 6 miles today.  (Roundtrip distant to my WW meeeting in the next town over.) Then we’re off to a Superbowl party and I’m taking along a crockpot full of Taco Soup (a WW recipe) and a carrot/celery/pita quarters tray with homemade hummos.

Taco Soup Recipe - 2 points per cup

Ingredients

1 lb. lean ground beef
1 large onion, chopped
1 can pinto beans (15 oz)
1 can fat free refried beans (15 oz)
1 can Mexican style chili beans (15 oz)
1 can whole corn (16 oz)
1 can chopped tomatoes (16 oz)
1 can tomato sauce (15 oz)
1-1/2 cups water
1 can green chilies (4-1/2 oz)
1 pkg taco seasoning mix
1 pkg Hidden Valley Ranch dressing mix (dry)

Instructions
Sauté meat and onion.  Rinse and drain corn and all beans, except the refried beans.  Add all ingredients to your pot. Bring to boil. Simmer 15 minutes. Serve. 1 cup = 2 points.

Special Notes
I was given this recipe at a Weight Watchers meeting. I have used all kinds of different beans in this recipe and it always come out yummy.  Freezes well.
