Thinking about signing up to run the mini….am I sick in the head?

So, I’m thinking of signing up for our mini marathon (13.1 miles). Am I insane? I run every other day, on a treadmill mostly, and usually do 5 miles when I run. I had been training on hills, but my knee is giving me problems...so I’m pretty much just trying to increase my distance gradually. On my non-running days, I lift weights, alternating upper & lower body workouts. So, the mini is in April...would I be nuts to give it a shot?

Hi Lisa,

I think that’s a great goal!  So long as you bring your training up gradually and don’t strain anything by working too hard, I bet you could double your distance in three months.

Good luck!

Cheers,
Julie

I say hey why not? It’s a goal. A defined measurable goal. It has a deadline, and a reward (satisfaction, and oh yeah maybe a t-shirt too). Work yourself up to it like Julie said. When I was doing long distance bike rides, the conventional wisdom was that you can do two times the distance you train at. By my calculations you are nearly doing that already. GO FOR IT!!!

Go for it!!!  It’s a great goal and it will give you something to work towards.  Create a training program that will prepare you gradually.  You have plenty of time so just start now and build up gradually.  I can’t wait to see the results you will achieve.
