Hi gang,

Today I joined the gym (a.k.a. fitness room) that is in the basement of where I work, and I plan to get started first thing tomorrow morning on 100 days of exercise!

I am an early riser for a commute into Washington DC that gets me to work at 7:30 AM, which will give me an hour each morning to do some weight training and cardio before hitting the desk job.  I plan to start at no fewer than 3 days per week, then get up to 4 or even 5 days per week.  Getting into a regular schedule on the weekdays will help me achieve this and also give me weekends off to spend with my wife.

I have a little bit of experience with exercise but have not felt “fit” during my adult life.  As of today I am 31 years old and weigh a little under 190 lbs.  At 5’8” this puts my BMI solidly in the “overweight” category.  My goal is to break into the 150’s this year, though I would love to see the scale say 149 or even lower!

I feel like I have been at success at many other things in my life, and now I want to succeed at being a healthy person too!

Cheers,

- Tim

Hey Tim. Welcome aboard. I lost my weight lifting gloves AND my iPod a month ago and still haven’t replaced either. I feel your pain.

Hi Tim! Welcome to MTM Land!  I hope that success DOES spill over in your physical health as well!!!  I bet that would boost confidence and well, others around you will notice that “success” as well!!!  Good luck, keep us posted!

Day 1 was a success!

For weight training I did the 6 Chest & Back exercises listed in Scott’s new “7 Pounds in 7 Days” booklet (3 sets, 12 reps).
For cardio I did 30 minutes on the treadmill.

Never did find the gloves, Kevin, but I did keep my iPod with me.  Song of the day was probably “el Distorto de Melodica” by Everclear during my cardio.

If you can’t find the gloves tonight, I’d say get yourself another pair. Wouldn’t hurt to have 2 anyway.

Way to go on Day 1!!!

It’s important to know that at the end of the day it’s not the medals you remember.  What you remember is the process-- what you learn about yourself by challenging yourself, the experiences you share with other people, the honesty the training demands—those are things nobody can take away from you whether you finish last or you’re an Olympic Champion.

Day 2:

Five Ab exercises, including a few listed in “7 Pounds...” but a few simpler ones thrown in as well - 2 sets of 20 reps.

For cardio, 35 minutes on the treadmill.

Song of the Day:  “Mountain Song” by Jane’s Addiction, which started just before the 30 minute mark of my cardio and kept me going until that 30 minute mark was long past…

Well, I stayed up too late last night and went off my diet a bit.

As of Day 1 (all of two days ago!), I started weighing myself first thing in the morning and then last thing at night.  This morning’s reading could be ominous… but maybe I’ll do a little extra cadio today to make up for it.

My arms are still a wee bit sore from Day 1, so I plan to do legs today instead of shoulders.

Gotta go catch the bus,

Day 4:  Rest day.  Still a little tight from the resistance training the last three days.

Tomorrow my wife has to work so I’m planning a (45 min, 60 min?) run on the trails around our townhouse.
