It’s important to know that at the end of the day it’s not the medals you remember.  What you remember is the process-- what you learn about yourself by challenging yourself, the experiences you share with other people, the honesty the training demands—those are things nobody can take away from you whether you finish last or you’re an Olympic Champion.

Tom,

I did my first marathon in October at St. George and finished in a disappointing 5:35:36.  My goal was 5 hours, and I was horribly undertrained.  I have determined that I’m not going to let that happen again!

Hey, you finished, and THAT is a great accomplishment....

Are you on any training plan for the upcoming ones?

Great start, Zach! Do you run outside, or on a treadmill?

Right now my weekday runs are treadmills, and the Saturday long runs are bundled up, outside, braving the cold.

By the way, today is…

Day 17:
40 minutes on the spin bike
Lat pull-downs and bicep curls.

My entire training plan is viewable here:

Bree:

XT is short for cross training… basically, that’s anything that’s not running.  Most of the time right now it’s spinning.  There’s also some light weightlifting that I do (going for definition, not bulk), and it could be things like playing basketball, etc.  Sometimes it’s even snow shovelling! smile

RJ:

I live in Sandy, work in Salt Lake.  And before my last marathon, my longest run was 20 miles, which I did twice.  Both times were really really hard.

And today is day 18:

4 mile run with speedwork.  Probably going to be hills today (that is, 1/4 - 1/2 mile stretches with the treadmill at 8% or so… yikes!)

Hi Zach! First off: love you screen name. That’s cute. Secondly, welcome to the 100 Day Challenge. And third, I’m very impressed with your runs! Can’t wait to read more!

Gina,

Careful with that.  Make sure you modify it to fit what works for you.  I’ve been a runner for several years now… doing too much too soon can spell disaster.  If you’d like, I could customize a plan for you based on how long you’ve been running, your current miles per week and longest run, and pace, etc.  My plan is very specific to me and the two marathons I want to run this year (and one half marathon).
