I introduced myself as Robert from KY, a 47 year old male, last January during the 100 day challenge. But during the event, I was injured and had to have surgery in February. But to recap, in October of 2006 I weighed in at 344 lbs. By January I weighed in just under 300 lbs. A full year later (14 months actually) I now weigh 227 lbs., for a weight loss of 117 lbs. I did have another set back this past October and had another surgery, but even with two surgeries and convalescing, I managed to lose over 117 lbs in 14 months.

This new year, I have no plans on making any weight loss resolutions. NONE! It isn’t necessary as I am eating right & exercising and seem to be losing a pound a week. I think I’ll eventually level out around 195-200 lbs, but I am sick & tired of buying new clothes each and every month (almost sick of it) because they are too large, so I am in no hurry to lose the rest.

This year I plan on using the same drive & gazelle like mentality I had about losing weight and use it on Dave Ramsey’s plan to get out of debt. After my weight loss and getting healthy last year and finding the Catholic faith, and if I get out of debt this year, then I will need suggestions on what to do next year.

But I got to tell you, it is finally nice not to have to make any new years resolutions on losing weight. I finally figured it out. It’s eating right and exercising. It’s that simple! You just need to create a calorie deficit and you will lose weight.

Good luck to everyone this new year.

Wow, Robert! 117 pounds lost is a huge accomplishment! Also, welcome back to the forums. Your determination really comes out through your post. I wish you the best of luck in 2008 as you continue to improve your life physically, spiritually and financially. Don’t worry about the clothes. I’ve been going through them like hotcakes myself. I like to think of my new threads as a reward for all my efforts but I do understand how it can get costly. I just try to buy things that will take me through the various transitions and make sure my belts have plenty of room to punch new holes. Have a great day, Robert!

Hey Robert!  Welcome back!

Whatever you’re doing, just keep doing it.  You seem to have found the perfect balance of eating and exercise that’s allowing the weight to keep coming off at a moderate pace.  Can’t argue with success!

P.S.  Enjoy the “rice and beans, beans and rice” diet!  grin

Hi again, Robert! As soon as I read “gazelle” I knew you had to be a Dave fan. We tivo his show on Fox Business News. Currently out of credit card debt as of December 17th. We just redid our IRA and are about to purchase the FPU on DVD. Also reading his books, and listening to the podcast. Between Dave and Scott, I’m motivated on all fronts!

How long have you been listening?

Robert, it is inspiring to read your story so far.  I am facing the need to have surgery sometime this year, and have been a bit anxious about it. I know I will have to give up exercising for a period of time and will be home recuperating for a few weeks, and am afraid I will lose my focus and end up snacking in front of the television again. I’ve put it off, thinking it would be great to be at my goal weight and size before the surgery, both for health reasons and for the sake of being motivated to maintain it.  If you can lose weight through all that, hopefully I can avoid gaining, and then ease back into my exercises. Best of luck to you!

Welcome back Robert and Happy New Year!

Oh my goodness, congrats on the 117 ILBs you lost! You really sound like you have an awesome plan for 2008 in just keeping things simple. Hear that Dave Ramsey plan really works, and I should be doing that myself..lol.  If you ever feel like sharing your secrets, such as weekly diet plan, and what you do for excerise, I would be love to read it!  My goal is to find an activity that ‘clicks’ for me, something that doesnt require big $$$; always open to suggestions.
