Au Rite 2008 is here!

Here we are at one year plus a week since the click. I just got off the treadmill and wanted to start my new year’s thread. I’m ready for an awesome year and am looking at what goals to quantify for this year. Loose more weight? You bet. Keep expanding my quality of life through fitness, healthy eating & choices...yup and yup. Maybe a specific fitness goal/accomplishment? You know it! Keep having fun while doing it? But of course!

And when do I start?

I already have!

Malama Pono,
Fat Jeff

Roaring into the new year!

Oh yeah! I’m off to a rip-roaring start to ‘08. Been burning up the treadmill and doing tons of physical work...like 5 hours of hard-core landscaping on Sunday. Man, I was more sore from that than any gym work out. But the good old treadmill helped work out the kinks...even if the soreness kept me to a all too brief 30 minutes. Today I was back in the gym for some weights and more cardio. I’ve finally busted my paradigm about my work hours and have “hard scheduled” my workouts. Tuesday, Thursday, & Saturday are gym days, drop off the boys at school and off to the gym with my work clothes in my messenger bag. I work late most days anyway so I’ll keep up with my work. So then I have Monday, Wednesday, & Friday for the treadmill & bar bells at home, and of course Sunday’s will always be some kinda work around the house or a bike ride. As ambitious as this sounds, I’m pretty certain that one of those Mon-Wed-Fri’s will be “fubar-ed” by life getting in the way...so there you have it, I’ll get my rest days there. So this is the new schedule version 1.0. I’m sure 1.1 will be here soon, but you gotta start somewhere and then tweak it. It’s all fluid so no worries.

Did I mention how good I feel today, besides the soreness and lack of sleep?

Fat Jeff

Sounds like a great plan, Jeff, with room for flexibility when the need arrives.

From the sound of it, you are full of energy despite the lack of sleep.  2008 is going to be great for you

Mahalo to Shawn, Emmi, Zookie, Charlene, Candy, & Jo!

This new schedule is working pretty good so far. I made both morning workouts and have been hitting the treadmill & barbells at night. I got am e-mail from 24 hour fitness with a link to a bunch of great new barbells workouts so the timing couldn’t have been better. After an especially good workout this morning (3 miles on the treadmill, 45 minutes of weights, and a quick spin on the elliptical. I felt great...super energized and drove into work. When I arrived I had a second, surprise workout waiting for me. Two pallets (80+ boxes @ over 3600 pounds total) were in my first parking space waiting for me to haul them into our warehouse (after I find room in our already overstuffed place).  So I moved the shipment and about another 1000 or so pounds of stuff to make room the shipment. Needless to say that by the time I finished I was PUMPED! So there you have it...my un-intended double down workout.

OBTW, with all the lifting I’ve been doing, I’ve been using “Muscle Milk” after weight workouts (on the recommendation of a friend). What I’ve noticed is a reduction in soreness and fatigue immediately after my workouts, and it’s actually very filling so I don’t find myself getting hungry. I’m interested to hear any feedback you may have on it.

Back to the gym on Saturday, and Sunday is a mountain bike ride with the boys. They should be good and sllow since they are gonna get worked at the speed & quickness clinic!

Fat Jeff

I love it when a plan comes together...

So week one of the new “paradigm buster” schedule was a raging success. I finished the week with another visit to the “garage gym” for my home workout on Friday night. Then I was up early Saturday morning for a full gym workout before I went to work. Sunday was my elixir for happiness...a mountain bike ride! The nephews bailed on riding (no surprise) and I ended up at the trail head by myself. Once there I noticed some friends cars and knew that if I humped it I could catch up with them...and I did! What a feeling...I NEVER can catch up with people while climbing...but I did this time. I rode the rest of the way with them and joined them for lunch (a truly evil hamburger steak & chicken katsu combo). All in all a super weekend.

I’m beginning to really feel some results from the workouts...last year was all about getting back to where I was, this year is gonna be all about getting better, stronger, healthier, and I’m feeling results after the “renewal” of the past couple months. Move, Move, Move...

Something funny I saw on the highway yesterday, a “Soccer Mom” mini van with a “Descendants” sticker on it. Ha! I don’t wanna grow up indeed! (OK I realized that no one may get the reference, but I just had to say...)

Blowin’ up the biceps

Today’s gym workout was all about “blowin up the biceps”. I hit them hard, upping my weight and doing an extra set where I went until failure...real almost drop the bar failure. It hurts, but it’s that good hurt. Spent 45 minutes total on weights and did an hour of cardio. And just for you Shaun, I ran on the treadmill. Not for too long, but I did run. I wanted a hard workout to make up for last night. I didn’t get home from work until 8:30, had a quick dinner, kissed my wife and the baby and went straight to bed (’cause 4:30am always seems to come too early).

Picked up some new glasses on the way back from the gym to work. Stylin...and oh yeah, with the new prescription I’m seeing clearer again. That’s important since I wear glasses specifically for driving.

I’m off to the SA after work to pick up some new shoes, my main pair are breaking down and I’m rolling my feet outward. Better to spend some $ on new shoes than deal with another round of prolonged foot injuries (and I know that too well).

Fat Jeff
