I am back to participating in a 100 Days of Exercise challenge as I promised… a day late due to having the flu yesterday.
I’m a veteran of the challenge but a new job which commands about 4 hours of daily commuting time, the holidays, and… let’s be honest… a diminished lack of focus have temporarily derailed me. I started my weight loss journey in late 2006 at 275 pounds, got down to 210 pounds when I started my new job back in August, but have creeped up about 10 pounds over the holidays!
Now, I am bound and determined to “Kick 2008 Where it Counts!” No, I don’t plan to run any marathons or become a body builder… I just plan on being “more gooder than badder” and continue to be the tortoise in that story. (Remember, slow and steady wins the race.) OK… I have aspirations to run a 5K this summer!
Things will be really busy in the upcoming few months with work and the long commute… but I know I will be able to dedicate 30 minute to one hour each day to exercise. There is always time for exercise!
That is great that you got your focus back and are recommiting. Gosh do we know that life gets in the way, but hey, you haven’t forgot those important lessons that lead to success so this is your year!!!!
1/3 (Day 2): Lower body workout, 50 abdominal crunches
I worked late, got home at about 7:30, and just got done. It’s almost time for bed.
As you can see, I am already feeling the time crunch… I need to join the health club at work pronto. (Correction… I need to MOVE pronto!!!!!!)
As far as the 5K is concerned, I need to start building up my running endurance again. I’ll give the treadmill a try for awhile tomorrow now that I am close to full strength after the flu.
Glad you’re feeling better. Great job getting in the lower body and ab workout. That’s one for this week so I’ve got to do my part and get in my cardio.
A four hour commute stinks. I’ll keep my fingers crossed that you are able to move soon.
Welcome back, Tim. Ouch with that 4 hour commute. I’m assuming you’re driving? I do try to fidget some while driving since every bit of movement has to help some.
Welcome back Tim. I’m with you in the return to the 100 day challenge. It’s great motivation to increase the workouts. That commute sounds like a killer. Do you have lots of audio books and podcasts? You’re right about the exercise too - just 30 to 40 minutes will give you great results and increase your energy level. I’m sure it will fit somewhere, especially if you have access to a gym at work during lunch. Keep up the great work. That 5 K will happen sooner than you think.
Good job Tim,have you though of working out in the morning?
I don’t do morning workouts, Shawn… especially when I have to wake up at 5:30 AM to get ready for work!
Just to clarify, my commute is 2 hours one way (4 hours a day total)… and I know other people with similar commutes. I don’t know how they do it!
I need to look into the commuter train (with the connecting shuttle bus to the office). I know I would have to stay out in the cold for awhile and drive 20 minutes to the station, but I could be productive for awhile and spare some miles on my car.
Ahhhh… there is the Bree we love… ending every post with a question!
I am feeling much better, thanks. The flu ended around noon on Wednesday… and got well just in time to return to work. Good thing… it is really busy here!!
