The tri is Memorial Day! cool smile I haven’t registered for the one in August yet. I’m still debating on it. So hot, so much sun in August. But it is before school starts.

I was actually looking forward to doing my “long” swim (22 min) today, but my knee is still kinda sore, so I might have to make it up tomorrow after our Baja meeting when the pool is open for open swim. I wonder if they’ll still have the lane markers up? I’ve never been to open swim.

Took today off work to let the knee rest and heal. It looks better today, still hurts and a bit swollen. I thought 4 hours walking on it right tickets in the cold would only make it worse so I called in. I only have one class this afternoon so I’m chillin’ and catching up on the web. My school schedule is busy! I’ll do some weights this afternoon when I get back from class (Arms & Back).

Well, my measurements are improving slowly but surely. Still frustrating that I’ve lost 4.5# and still had to go up a jean size because they have a “new fit.” And even these new jeans are tight in the hips. Grr. But I already did that rant in my journal.

This first week of school has gone well so far. Still tinkering with exactly when to fit in my workouts with my class/work schedule, but I think I’ve got it mostly figured out. I’m getting to campus like 45 minutes to an hour early to get my workouts in before class and work. Waking up early is tiring, but I know that there’s no way that I would want to work out after sitting in class all day doing way too much calculus. All that calculus drains you mentally and physically. At least I get my choice of parking spots getting there that early.

I have been neglecting my meditation practice this week. I need to get back to that.

What Tri did you sign up for?

What are the distances?

Sounds like fun!

What kind of bike?

Nashville GJCC Memorial Day Triathlon
200 Meter Pool Swim / 8.5 Mile Bike / 2 Mile Run
Good for a beginner this one.

Wolf Pack Triathlon in Memphis
August 24, 2008
1/4 Mile Swim -5 Mile Mountain Bike - 2.5 Mile Run
Double the swimming(and in a lake), less biking, bit more running.
This is the one I’m still considering.

Bike- I have a Magna Great Divide 21 Speed that I got a Target the summer before last. I may look into getting a new one this summer if I do that second Tri (which I’m leaning heavily towards) and depending on how this one does in Nashville. Its nothing fancy, I just got it to ride around the neighborhood in originally. But since its codl I’ve been either using the stationary bikes at the campus gym or the one that I have hear that I got off of ebay.

Sounds cool Jenn!

Your going to do GREAT!

I will suggest that you practice your ‘transitions’.  It’s the fastest way to decrease your times without any althletic ability!  I save 2 minutes on my last tri, just in the transitions!

Bree should meet up with you and do them too!

Day 17: 01/17/08

Strength: Back, Arms, & Abs 30m
BACK Lateral pull-downs (4x12@80#)
BACK Seated row (4x12@60#)
TRICEPS DB Overhead Extension (4x12@60#)
TRICEPS Overhead Cable Extensions (4x12@60#)
BICEPS Pulley Curls(4x12@30#)
BICEPS General (4x12@30#)
ABS Cable Crunch (2x25@80#)
ABS Obliques (2x50@40#)
ABS Trunk Twists (2x50@40#)

Well I wasn’t about to let a fall on my knee keep me from doing anything today. I did get in my strength training since most of it was sitting on the bowflex or ground. And I increased my weight in all but one exercise (forgot to do it for the Seated Row, it was the first one I did). Next week I’ll increase the weight for my Tuesday strength work out too. I can definitely see some improvement, especially in the arms. That caught my attention yesterday when I reached for something on the bathroom counter and caught a look at some muscle in the mirror. So I had a little fun doing muscle arms in front of the mirror after my workout today cool smile

Transitions-I’ll definitely be practicing those, but I’m going to wait til it warms up a bit first. cool smile

Great workout!

and yes....you can ‘practice’ transitions visually.

there is a cool podcast called endurance planet that has videos - some on transitions.  Another one is Tri-Talk…

It is a great thing to check yourself out in the mirror. I used to feel so vain about it but now, I feel like it is my duty to see how my body is changing....ok, and a little vanity!!!  Way to go on your workout.

You’re doing great, Jenn!

Is the pool at school open Saturdays? Maybe we could head up there some weekend for a swim and ditch the guys.

Good stuff Jenni, I know here in Montreal the YMCA has free swim 1 time a day and the city pools are free all the time.
