If it’s in the house, its too accessible, and not special. If you have to make a special trip for it, like going out for ice cream, then it is a real treat. Something to look forward to, and really enjoy the experience of it.
True, saving money is good! She already buys lots of chips and candy and keeps them downstairs, but somethings need refrigeration, like ice cream and chocolate milk. As long as I’m not living alone I need to learn to deal with food being around without me feeling the necessity of eating it.
At the cookout last night, John (our host) asked his 11 year old son to put the ice cream away. So Ryan took the spoon (which was FULL of ice cream) out of the ice cream container, put it on a plate (without licking it), and put the container away. !??!?!?! What’s up with that!?!?!?! I didn’t know that was even possible!
Well...I’m excited! A kettlebell has been ordered, they were in stock, and I’m just waiting for the email to tell me how long it will be until I have a new toy! New toys are fun! I’m on my way to add fun into my workout with this new addition. I’m off to search for a good beginner’s workout so I’m all ready when it arrives.
Bree, I called 2nd Wind, he said, “You’re like the 4th person in 2 days to ask me about kettlebells!” He said he’s tried but can’t get them, he has kettleballs. I asked what’s that. He said it was like a medicine ball but with 2 handles on opposite sides...not exactly what I was looking for.
OK, on a whim I searched Wal-Mart site and they have them! If you search under kettlebell, nothing comes up, but kettle weight does. And they’ll ship to the store for pickup!!!
It is pretty weird, considering I got my Bowflex with free shipping. But I did find a place for $10 shipping instead of $25. So I’m pretty happy about that as well…
man… WalMart would probably have been a lot cheaper! I did check out Target’s website this morning and didn’t find anything, and stopped there.
Today is my last day of my rest week. I noticed this morning that I’m not limping around like I have been for quite some time. I’m not sure how to take that. I’m hoping I was just worn out and the week’s rest did me good, and not that something I’ve been doing is awfully hard on my knees and maybe I should cut it out...I don’t know…
If you notice intense knee pain again, rest for a couple days, then add the elements of your routine back one at a time until you figure out which is hurting.
I’m happy you took the week off, we all need that.
Hey Deb,
How do you like your Bowflex? I’ve been considering that as a purchase for a long time. I’ve got 75 lbs to lose, and I love my home treadmill. But I’ve not added weight resistance.
I love my Bowflex Kristen. It’s efficient and mine has 75 different exercises to choose from (Extreme 2). I didn’t know if I would like weight training or not, but I love it! It makes me feel strong; and I like that feeling.
Thing is Bree, the knee didn’t go intense. It just hurt a little bit more every day. I didn’t really even notice it was getting worse until I’d rested and it got better. Weird. But you can bet I’ll keep my eye on it.
Tom, did you have to look up that word “rest” in the dictionary to see what it meant? (just kidding, honest!) I don’t think you ever rest, do you?
I do feel better after resting and look forward to getting back into the groove.
Thanks for the info, Deb. I am not eager to go to a gym to get my workouts; I prefer to workout at home, plus I live too far from a gym to have it fit into my schedule and to be an economical option. I really am going to consider bringing a Bowflex into my home. My husband is a bit *synical* about my long term use of such expensive equipment at this point. Perhaps if I show him that I am really serious (and felt the click) this time he wouldn’t mind so much. Don’t get me wrong, if I wanted it, I could go out and purchase it, but we like to agree on our BIG expenditures before we do them.

I thought further about Kristen’s question while I was on the Bowflex. I came up with a regret. There isn’t a community (that I could find) around the Bowflex. People to say, “Oh, you’ve got that problem, here’s how I solved it.”; or “Here’s a new exercise I discovered, check it out.” And when I found a workout routine, or listened to Scott telling about the exercises he did, first I would have to figure out whether that exercise existed in my Bowflex manual, and if not, how could I adapt it so I could do it on the Bowflex, and would it be safe and effective. I don’t consider this a negative though, because, as Scott likes to say, “You’ve got to own it.” and being out on my own, I certainly do take responsibility for my Bowflex education. So, if you want to go beyond the suggested workouts in the Bowflex manual (which are quite good), that’s something to consider…
Deb: I LOVE my kettlebells.
I hope you get as much enjoyment out of them as I have!!!!
If you do a search on http://www.youtube.com and put in “kettlebell” it will return a lot of clips for viewing.
Anthony Diluglio has a wonderful Kettlebell Clinic dvd available that goes over the basics.
Do you have any Dick’s Sporting Goods around you? They carry Kettlebells. (The Iron Core ones). AT least it saves on shipping.
I also got some from Performbetter.com (but I don’t recall what shipping was).
