I am happy to say that 2008 is not a “new beginning” for me. Rather, it is a continuation with the intention of growth and advancement to the later stages - as I peel back the onion of my quest for self improvement.
There is a certain distinct quality that comes from knowing you will get what you want. You begin to visualize it, it becomes real to you. Suddenly the unimportant, insignificant things begin to fade into the background as you become fixated on, driven to, drawn towards that visual.
This year, I want to lose 100lbs. This will put me at 250lbs, 70lbs away from my end weight goal. I also want very much to get a gym membership. My circumstances right now are not hospitable to this, but if there is any way, any way at all, I will find it at some point in 2008. Until then, I will continue to advance in my walking routine.
And I will proudly say that I live every day with intention.
Day 1: I honestly couldn’t wait to start my challenge, so today I walked 4 miles to kick it off.
You are so right, the new year is not only a celebration of new beginnings but also a celebration of the continuation. But we do need to pause to acknowledge the accomplishments of the past year, and to look forward to what we have yet to achieve. Peeling the onion is such a great analogy, you will continue to discover new layers, and explore to depths you didn’t know existed.
Life is your challenge, and you will continue to explore every day with an open mind and open heart.
When I see your posts, I picture a normal healthy, happy person. You are active and inquiring. This is who you are to me right now. Your weight loss will come, but in my mind you are already there.
Wow, Paula. Thank you. I do have to remember that the weight loss is what it is, but there are other dynamics to my journey. Just as much as I am on my way to a thin and trim body, I am also engaged in other persuits. Mental, spiritual, educational. I suppose that my weight loss will serve to represent that I took back control of my life. But when I look back at it all, it won’t be my only victory.
Day 3: I walked around stores a lot yesterday!
Day 4: 4 miles in a light blizzard. I didn’t like getting snow in my eyes, and then having the wind blow my hood back so I couldn’t protect them! As I look back, it was pretty funny. Thank goodness for Columbia brand coats and ski masks!

This is definitely how you get what you want! All it takes is persistence and unwillingness to quit. Just keep taking the next step.
