Shawn - you are right. I am glad that I am not that far out of shape.
I had a GOOD day on the treadmill. I took my time warming up. Used some hand weights for the first 15 minutes or so. Made sure my shins and calves were good and lubbed before starting on the hills.
Today’s workout was a 90 minute LSB on the treadmill. I actually looked at some scrapbooking magazines while walking today as well. I’ve always wondered how people could do that, but since I am taking it LONG and SLOW I find I can do it. I tore out some scrapbooking ideas while walking and got 2 things done at once.
The bummer of the day???? Two kids home running fevers. Not that I minded. It was nice to have nothing to do....again. Snow Friday. Everything cancelled. Saturday and Sunday crazy. Lost power for the entire night Sunday night (during the SUPER BOWL) and woke up with sick kids. Oh well. Such is life.
Good stuff Carla, I just wanted to point out that you should consider yourself lucky that you can move the way you want to, I consider myself extremely lucky, most people my size have trouble tying there shoes!(not me!)
Wow! Shawn! You had me worried. I thought your picture was a “before before” pic. I’m glad you added the not me! (Just kidding) I know how hard you work out.
Heck the most I’ve been overweight (besides when I was pregnant) was pretty much now...20 lbs over and I know tying my shoes could be uncomfortable, but at least I could do it.
Weigh in day today. I didn’t make my goal of never seeing the scale go back up. I gained 2 lbs this week. I’m not surprised. I know I made bad choices throughout the week so even calorie averaging was not helping!
It’s ok. Kids are still running fevers. Once they wake up and are doing OK, I’ll hit the weights and treadmill again today. I have my refrigerator loaded with my favorite salad stuff and veggie soup. I will lose that 2 lbs for next week. Nothing is going to stop me. These last few weeks have been wonderful. I haven’t stressed about my food choices, I’ve worked out long and steady and it’s paid off at the scale. This week my food choices got sloppy and I’ve come to the conclusion that when you don’t have a lot of weight to lose, you can’t afford to go too far off the path.
SO - back to the straight and steady. Today is a new day!
Shawn- Yes, 2 lbs is nothing in the scheme of things. I could make that up next week easily. BUT when you’ve only lost 6 lbs it’s discouraging when you go backwards and re-gain 1/3 of your weight. UG! I have to keep it all in perspective though. My ultimate goal is to be healthy, to re-focus myself on the person I truly want to be. Losing 20 lbs will be a bonus. Yes, I know I want to lose weight so I feel better about myself.
Yesterday I didn’t end up getting a workout in. Just as I was going to get changed into my workout clothes my 6-yo DD said “my throat is going to throw up”. She didn’t, but then I felt too paranoid to go downstairs to workout. So, yesterday wound up being a rest day.
The girls are still home sick with fevers. I am calling the doctor here in a few minutes. Last night my daughter started saying her throat was on fire. I looked and didn’t see a thing on the back of her throat, but thought we should have it checked out. They were both running fevers again last night. Hopefully, I will get on the treadmill sometime today though.
I hope your kids get well soon. My daughter just got over something similar and now my son is starting to feel sick. It’s that time of year when everything is going around. Don’t worry about your workout, tomorrow is another day. Take care.
Well, I did get about 60 minutes in on the treadmill, but it didn’t feel like it. The first 15 minutes were a very slow warm up because I’m trying to make sure my legs are ready to hit it before I get going too much. I am paranoid about shin splints since my shin has been bothering me, but that’s ok. I’ve been home and I’ve had the time to workout longer if my kids will let me. So, I was on the treadmill about 30 minutes just hitting my stride when my 6-yo DD came down and said she didn’t feel well. Had to get off the treadmill, check temp, make sure she was ok (she really was), I did some vacuuming to keep moving and stay close to her for a while. Finally, I got back on the treadmill, but I really had lost my tempo. I always have a rule not to answer the phone or anything else during my workout. I always lose my motivation when I have to stop midway through. So I was on for another 30 minutes, but I don’t feel like I got a good workout.
Food has been a HUGE issue this week. I think I just have too much time on my hands - and I’ve been craving carbs a lot. I think that’s why I packed on the lbs while I was a SAHM. I just couldn’t block out the call of the kitchen.
Yesterday I had a rare moment and I was watching “Oprah” and they were talking about the secret. That’s when it hit me. I’ve lost my vision of what I want. I need to re-focus. I need to listen to a MTM podcast, but since I normally do that in the car since I have a 30 minute drive to work 2 days a week.....and since I haven’t been working, my focus is a little askew.
So that is my mission today. To get my food back on track....To re-focus on my goals. Mazatlan is 6+ weeks away and at this point I could still hit my 10 lb loss goal by then. IF I ACT NOW. TODAY. I can’t wait until the next weigh in because then I will be really behind.
OK - that’s my mission.....MISSION MAZATLAN
The Food Plan for today:
B: Oatmeal w/yogurt
L: Mediterranean Salad
S: Apple
D: Pineapple with black bean sauce
Well, I did it. I got the workout in before DD cried wolf. 60 min - glad to get it done!
Around 11:30, same thing, mom I don’t feel so good. I just think it’s all of the drainage from her cold. So, the workout is done and we are off to a great start!
Friday the kids were finally going back to school. It was a good feeling. I had the day off and had all of these great plans for the day, but I knew my workout had to come first. I got my 60 minutes in and then I was of to run errands.
Sat - didn’t get to workout. Lots of things going on with work and driving to Chicago for my DDs tumble meet. My sweet tooth got to me in the car and I ate too much. Sun - drove home from Chicago. Didn’t get to workout. We had 2 wait 2 hours for DD to get her trophy at the meet. A little ridiculous.
Mon - 60 min LSB - listened to the “Lose 7 lbs in 7 Days” podcast from Scott. Going to give it a try to re-start my motivation. I’ve been eating poorly this week due to the B word - BOREDOM. Trapped in the house for 4 days brought back all of my bad habits. It’s amazing how quickly we can downward spiral. Makes me fearful of the scale tomorrow, but it doesn’t matter. My goal is still 6 weeks away and today is a new day!!!!!
My fear of the scale was somewhat unfounded. I lost 1 lb. which is great considering I was not expecting that. Tuesday I tried to do the Push-Pull Workout from Cathe Friedrich. I did most of it, but my head was not into it. Actually, my head was hurting. I wasn’t sure if it was because I slept on the couch or I was getting my kids cold.
Wed was a rest day because Wednesdays SUCK! Oops. Did I say that? I went to a meeting all day, coached volleyball from 3-5, worked from 5:15-7, ran my kids to activities until 8:30 at night and then listened to my daughter whine at 9 pm that she didn’t have Valentine’s Box decorated for the contest. You know what? It’s optional. You don’t get to do it. Sorry!
This morning I only 30 min on the treadmill done. I made the mistake of answering the phone before my workout. Talking for 20 minutes when I could have been on the treadmill. Dang! I hate that. Oh well. Tomorrow will have to be a big workout day. A good hard burn before the weekend! Going to see the Jonas Brothers this weekend!!!!! My girls are SO excited!
"OMG - The JoBros are like the hottest thing since Hannah Montana!” she says in a syrupy valley girl voice. The Jonas Brothers are a boy band of three brothers: Nick, Joe and Kevin. They are a Disney group and my 3 DDs LOVE them.
I had a good 65 min on the treadmill today with biceps & triceps. It’s amazing how working out can affect your outlook on everything. Yay ME!
