I think you’re right, and have no need to worry. You’re not overdoing either diet or exercise, you seem to have plenty of energy, and when you don’t, you slow down.

If you keep losing after the 20 like this, I may wonder, but as long as you feel strong, I assume you’re on the right track! And the book would sell fast!

I think Bree’s right. You don’t seem to be doing anything crazy. Your subbing refined carbs with complex ones and not overdoing exercise. You’re body is just adjusting. I’m sure the momentum will slow down. It always does. If not, then see a Doc.

It doesn’t sound like you’re doing anything crazy. But I’d be cautious and check in with a doctor if you continue to lose this fast. You certainly don’t want to lose muscle.

Sorry about the break-up. What’s with all the people on drugs which even if they’re not illegal are inappropriate? (I know “inappropriate” isn’t the right word but I hope you know what I mean.)

I’ve heard of something like this before, no worries Chad, as long as your feeling good thats all that counts.

Chad W - 23 January 2008 01:18 PM

I don’t know.
The whole rapid weight loss thing is really starting to worry me.  I weighed again today and I’m down a total of 18 pounds in exactly 3 weeks.  I weighed 252 on January 2nd.  Today I weighed 234, 3 pounds less than I did Monday.
It really hit me today that it’s way too fast.
All I’ve done is cut out breads and rices...surely that one change did not trigger this kind of results.  I’m eating around 2000 calories or so a day and exercising 4 days or so a week.
Here’s what I think are the possible causes:
(1) I’ve kicked into some super fat burning mode secret and if so I should write a book. Ka-ching $$$$
(2) The stress over the break up is causing me to lose weight.
(3) I’ve somehow kicked into Ketosis, even though I’m eating fruits and beans and carby veggies.  Now I have stinky breath to look forward too.  Great.
(4) The 20 pounds I put on over the winter fell off easily cuz it hadn’t set up shop yet and grabbed onto my spleen or liver or some other organ.
(5) My body is reacting normally to a good diet and exercise program and there’s no need to worry.

Whatchu guys think?

When I did a high protein, low carb diet in ‘99...I lost almost 25 lbs in 6 weeks...so its not a bad thing...you will balance out...but make sure your nutrition stays balanced...make sure you get the potassium you need, either through eating banana’s or supplements.  With a low carb diet, you will go into ketosis...but it balances out after about 4 weeks.

Now the negative...keep an eye on it...does your family have a history of diabetes?  This could be a symptom.  A simple blood test could check this and would be known good or bad.  Judging by your activity level I wouldn’t think diabetes though.  Not meaning to spook you...but I had a close friend that lost 30 lbs in a 6-8 week period and he wasn’t as active, wasn’t a slouch...but he just was worried, turned out he had diabetes.

Keep up the good stuff...on a side note..where did you find those bean dishes???

Hey RJ.
I don’t really think as what I’m doing as a low carb diet since I’m eating oatmeal and lotsa fruit.  I’ve just cut out breads and rices, not carbs.
As for the bean dishes, the fake mashed potatoes idea came from Men’s Health magazine.
The others I’ve just kinda made up to alleviate boredom.  I figure it will take variety to keep me going.

I’ve been eating in a similar way and working out as often.  I don’t thing you’re doing anything crazy.  Men always seem to dump weight quickly and then it evens out.  I agree with the others, if it doesn’t slow down then just get checked out.

I read Women’s Health which is the sister magazine to Men’s Health.  It’s always has good recipes.

Nice workout.

As for the weight loss, be happy.  You’ve lost a lot of weight this month so you have room to stay where you are for a little while.  You’re body has to adjust then it will start dropping again.  You’re doing great.

Rest day.
I’ve not been sleeping well at night, so I’ve been exhausted.  All day I was shaking and felt “revved” up in some odd way.
I got better sleep last night so I should be hitting the exercise hard this afternoon.

Chad, it sounds like your body was telling you it’s time for a rest. I hope it’s not the illnesses that seem to be going around.
