Well here goes! My best year ever. No matter what. Period.
I won’t accept anything less.
Just this time last year I was wondering if I could really possibly ever complete just one 100 Days Challenge. Just finishing was my goal. Then it was a second 100 Days and then a third. WOW! Could it be? Scott was right? Just stand up. Take a step. Repeat. That’s all it takes? Really?
Yes. Really.
I can now start out 2008 and feel confident when I say “Yes, I exercise regularly.” I can start out the year knowing that when I hit age 50 on December 20, 2008, I’ll be more slender and more fit than when I turned 49. I’ve got the confidence of a year of consistent movement under my belt.

Hey Judy - Congratulations on your success. It’s been great watching you transform yourself since you joined the forum, and also watching that shrinking avatar! You are a true MTM success story and an inspiration.
You are such an inspiration to me. I have been reading some of your old threads and I know where you started and I can see where you are now and it makes me think “If Judy can.....” You are always so helpful and encouraging in your posts and I know this forum would be a duller place without you (and those pictures )
Ah, Jo. That’s so nice of you to say! I just kept hanging on to something I heard Scott say once in a podcast ... something like “if you can exercise consistently for 6 months, you’ll ALWAYS be an exerciser. You’ll always come back to it.” Something like that. So I figured that if I could make it through one 100 Days Challenge I would be well on my way.
And he was right! Even though I was pretty much of a slug for about two weeks this past month, there was always this little thought in the back of my mind that said “I know I’m going to get back to my good old routine again.” I had no doubt of it.
And with all of this talk about exercise ... I’m taking a rest day today! I had to get out of the house a bit earlier than normal to drop Lucy and Ethel off at the vet. Today is the day they get spayed! So I’ll have the fun of driving home this evening with two slightly spaced-out kitties.
Isn’t it wonderful to know that even though sometimes other things have to take precedence, you haven’t “fallen off the wagon” and that you will exercise again asap???
Shawn, I couldn’t imagine anyone trying to live with two unspayed female cats! Talk about PMS!

Joan, I’ve always said there is no wagon to fall off of! It’s all just life moving on moment after moment. Sometimes I make more health-promoting choices than others. So we won’t even mention the fried shrimp and french fries I had for lunch today!
I can’t picture you as a slug, ever. You have way too much energy, even if you aren’t formally exercising.
Oh, Paula, you’d be surprised what a slug I can be!
But today I wasn’t sluggish, thank goodness!
Day 4
45 minutes
2.184 miles
2.0 incline
3.0 mph
Max HR 126 (73%)
Avg HR 117 (68%)

Joan, the kitties are doing fabulously well. If we could all recover from surgery as easily as they apparently are. When I picked them up at the vet after work yesterday, they were wide awake and ready to go. When I got home and opened up their carriers, they just took off all over the house. I think they were just thrilled not to be cooped up anymore!
The vet had said to try and keep them as calm as possible and I just rolled my eyes at her! She laughed and said, “Well, just don’t get out the laser pointer, okay?” Not a problem.
They spent quite a bit of last night all curled up next to me on the bed, but that’s what they usually do (especially when it’s cold out). But when I got up this morning I found their toys scattered all over the bedroom and down the hall, so I know they spent a good bit of time playing. And while I was on the treadmill, they were running and jumping and carrying on as usual.
I expect when I get home from work tonight, the toys will be all over the place again and they’ll be by the back door just waiting for me to fix some supper for them. Back to normal!
Happy Caturday everyone! The girls are still full of vim and vigor and showing absolutely no sign that they are even aware that they had surgery two days ago. Amazing.
I’ve been running around like a crazy woman today taking care of errands, getting my hair cut, etc., etc., etc. I had thought about counting today as a rest day, but now that I’m home, my legs are feeling well-used, just like they do after I’ve been on the treadmill. I guess all of my rapid mall-walking (with virtually no window-shopping stops) really gave me a better workout than I realized. So I’m going to count this as a day of exercise since I sure feel as though I did.
Day 5
45 minutes (give or take) of mall walking
Right now I’m enjoying a really, really good chocolate protein shake (made with Met-RX Extreme Chocolate protein powder). I also jazzed it up a bit by throwing in 5 frozen strawberries. Mmmmmmm.
Pretty soon I’ll be off to the kitchen to whip up some Hoppin’ John for supper. I didn’t feel like eating the traditional black-eyed peas on New Years Day, but I do now.
I have that quote about working out for 6 months in the back of my head too. I’ve thought about that a lot over the last year. I have successfully completed two 6 month periods...so I shouldn’t have any problem working out forever.
