Monday: 3.5 mile run & P90 sculpting & hardio

Yay, Shawn! I’m getting back to loving my runs. Are you considering joining us in the WWH? Remember, there’s 3 options: 5k, 10k, and the half marathon!

Tonight Jenn and I added in our own version of the Power 90 lunge/squats. We’d made up a playlist to have going and chose the option on the DVD to not have music. “Walk like an Egyptian” by the Bangles came on during the lunge/squat combos, so we did! It was so fun adding the hand motions to the lunges, then the squats too! We were giggling like kids. Too fun!!!

Freaky for me, I got up with Hubby (it was an early day, so 5am), and have already gotten my tempo run done! So much easier to tempo run on a treadmill. tongue rolleye

I have to mow the lawn, so as soon as the girls are up, I’m outside. We’ve been in a heat advisory for a few days now. I’ve put it off for as long as I can.

Got the lawn done just in time, it started sprinkling on me, and now a full storm is underway. At least I had sun cover and a nice breeze while I was outside.

Plenty of rain here in Western NY as well. The humid air is getting us ready for our trip to Fla. I see you are still going strong with your workouts. I tried the the 5 a.m thing for a while in late June and quickly remembered why I like working out in the afternoon. Keep moving!

5am was a fluke. Today I slept until 9. Mouse crawled in bed with me, and that’s the best sleep I can get. Something about a little arm draped over me makes me sleep so well.

Tuesday: .75 mile tempo run & P90 sweat

Dreadfully hot and humid again today. I was hoping the storm yesterday would bring a cool front with it. It did, but barely. The highs went from 97 to 90. But they’re rising back up starting tomorrow. I miss the north. But, the pool is nice and warm!

wow good discussion on Chi running guys - thanks for your insights Adam and Bree.  The incline has always been rough on the knees after a while, but I haven’t tried mixing it with Chi techniques, I’ll have to give that a try!  Excellent workouts Bree, I’m really looking forward to watching you reach and exceed your goals in the WWH.  The upcoming 5k sounds like fun, did you register for it yet?  wink

Keep going girl!

Slow as hell, Tom! I run between 5 and 5.5 mph. My legs are 2 feet long, so I have a very short stride. The Chi Running book recommends 3 steps a second, so 180 bpm songs, I did that on Tuesday on the treadmill at 5.2 mph. If I had long legs, the world wouldn’t know what hit them! I do run faster outside, and it is definitely easier on my knees.

Wednesday: P90 sculpt

I’m planning on getting up in the morning and getting my run in early. It’s just a 1 mile tempo run.

That’s interesting that you say outside is easier on your knees. My brother in law swears that he finds it easier running outside but I feel there’s a lot less effort on the treadmill.

You ALMOST make me want to run again soon. However, right now I’m concentrating on building upper body strength.

Running is great, Joan! Maybe you could add in some easy intervals during your cardio sessions.

Actually I do run sometimes on the treadmill during my cardio sessions. I just wasn’t counting that because I don’t sustain it for very long. I was thinking back to when I was preparing for May’s 5K and then I ran for much longer stretches. Today I still have a sore butt and upper legs from Monday’s training session. I’ve been reminded of it every time I’ve climbed our stairs today and I went up and down a lot. I couldn’t imagine trying to run today. . . . but I will run again eventually.

Thanks for the update Bree....

Slow is relative....

I run an 8:30 pace pretty comfortably.... going to under 8:00 and I’m working!

In my 5K earlier this year the first mile was 6:30 pace second mile 6:40 third mile 7:15 (ouch!) I was beating my friend for the first two miles (his legs are long! a natural looking runner!) and he passed me the second mile… and i just could not keep up!

i enjoy running outside much better than inside....but find the treadmill easier.  I don’t think it gives you the same workout as outside, but easier on the knees, with the padding etc....

Oops! I typoed earlier, for Chi Running on the treadmill its 3 strides per 2 seconds, not 1!

Didn’t set my alarm, so no early run. Hubby’s on business, so both of the girls are having a friend stay the night. Sleeping in was not a bad idea. smirk

Joan, good going on intervals! I need to catch up on your thread to see what you’re up to.

Shawn—ewwww.

Thanks Emmi!

I gotta disagree with ou there. My commode water is quite frigid. Not that I reach in and feel it, but I do experience the occasional “splashback”
